Simply put, the following shows are the best on television.

Or at least they were during the 2016-2017 season.

Scroll down and click all around for a look at the programs we truly cannot live without...

1. Legion

Legion turned the whole MCU on it's head, with innovative storytelling and an eye popping visual style to stake it's claim as the most imaginative show in years. - Ron

2. Big Little Lies

Big Little Lies. I loved this limited series from HBO. It had first class acting and drama, but I would be mad if we did not get a season 2. With witty dialog and an enthralling mystery, it really needs to come back. - Paul

3. Veep

Even with everything that's going on in our current political climate, it's still fun to sit down with former President Meyer and her incompetent staff every week. Despite not holding any office, Selina still manages to create chaos everywhere she goes. Scattering the staff was a risky move, but it pays off every time they find a way to reunite them for a new disaster.

4. American Gods

I tuned in to see what the hype was about and because of the cast. I was instantly hooked. It's visually stunning. The cinematography is out of this world. Ricky Whittle is amazing. Watching the show is a unique experience, and I want more of it for as long as they're willing to give it to us. - Jasmine

5. Lucifer

Lucifer: To take a good graphic novel series and turn it into a solid crime procedural with the odd couple antics of early Sleepy Hollow, strong long story arcs, genuine relationships and awesome ensemble players takes ambition and more than a little luck. To carry it through to an intriguing and exciting sophomore season takes some mad skillz. The addition of Tricia Helfer's Mrs. God/Charlotte and Aimee Garcia's Ella has been appealing and entertaining and Timothy Omundson's God Johnson was a brilliant choice. - Diana

6. Mom

Not only is Mom one of the funniest shows on TV, but it's also one of the most heartfelt. No series can bring me to the point of tears by tackling such serious issues as addiction and rape and still have me laughing out loud in the same episode like Mom can. It's incredibly well written and well acted, and continues to grow and improve each season. Someone give this show an Emmy already! - Stacy

7. Riverdale

Well since two of my favorite shows are gone (American Crime and Chicago Justice), I'm going to go with Riverdale. I am SO glad it's coming back and is going to have a full season next year! - Jack

8. Gotham

There’s no other show on television that gives me as much of a thrill as Gotham does. Sure it can be over-the-top crazy at times but it is always a lot of fun. It’s escapist television at its best and who doesn’t need a little escape from reality sometimes? - Lisa

9. 48 Hours

When I'm done working – reviewing and editing reviews and posts about scripted television – there's nothing I love more than watching 48 Hours on ID. Dateline on ID comes in a close second. A good murder mystery with facts and sometimes even an ending. You'd think it would be hard to relax to such fare, but nope. It's the best. I cannot live without my death TV. - Carissa

10. 13 Reasons Why

I thought the Netflix drama was going to be a run of the mill teen drama, but it was a surprisingly fresh series that left me wanting more. Sure, Season 2 will not live up to Season 1, but it should be interesting to see where the story goes next. - Paul

11. Scandal

Scandal has always been a TV series that's just bonkers, with crazy twists that would never happen in real life, but that's what makes me love it so much. It's not predictable and keeps me on the edge of my seat. - Paul

12. The Originals

With The Vampire Diaries officially over, The Originals has flourished with a fresh new direction and characters. The show has always been much darker than The Vampire Diaries and that's what I like most about it. - Paul

13. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is a show that manages to have musical numbers without them feeling like they've just been thrown in. The humor, acting, writing, and singing should keep the show on the air for a long time. - Paul
