It's the wearing of the green!!
On St. Patrick's day, if you're not sporting green, you're going to get pinched. If you're not Irish, you'll pretend to be!
There is so much that happens on this very green, very Irish and just all around entertaining day that we wanted to jump in with some joyous celebrating of our own.
Of the television variety of course. Have fun and be safe out there!
1. Irish Christmas
What more needs to be said about this? We like having two Christmases. One with gifts the other with beer. Other than that, we admit we miss Michael Scott. A lot more than we realized. The Office was never quite the same without him.
2. You Better Be Wearing Green!
Seriously, green is the color of the day. Even if you're not Irish. It's St. Patrick's Day! Let's celebrate!
3. What's with the Pinching?
What's with the pinching? If you're not wearing green, you're likely to get pinched. People used to think if you didn't wear it, leprechauns might do the pinching. More on the little green fellas later. For now? Let's looks at Supernatural's Sam Winchester cower in fear.
4. Everyone's a Little Irish Today
Everyone is a little Irish today. It's true. Even if you're Great Great Great Great Great Great Grandmother's Uncle Leonard was 1/4 Irish, you're going to claim it. And while we'll likely NEVER see Daryl on The Walking Dead celebrate this stupendous holiday, Norman Reedus did kindly star in Boondock Saints as twin, Murphy MacManus. The above GIF thrills us to bits. You're welcome.
5. Do NOT Say Patty's Day.
My mom is Patty. Her first name is Patricia. Pádraig is Gaelic for Patrick. Paddy is the nickname and that's all there is to it.
6. Yes, You Get Credit for Trying
As demonstrated so beautifully by Liz Lemon from the wonderful and also terribly missed 30 Rock, you do get credit for trying. Wearing any green is appreciated, so slap on that fleuroscent green sticker. It counts!
7. Extra Credit for Awards and Enthusiasm?
No. There isn't extra credit for those who received past awards or show extra enthusiam while sporting green, but if Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's Rachel Bloom is wearing her gorgeous Golden Globes gown again today, she's totally celebrating right!
8. It's Kermit's Favorite Day!
Jimmy Fallon shares with Kermit the good news. It's the easiest day of the year to BE green. Awww. Kermie usually finds it so hard to be green!!
9. Emerald City!!
Hey, Grey's Anatomy is always a little Irish, as every time they get a drink they're going green. GREEN!!!!! Not only is Seattle the Emerald City, but on this day, we're reminded of Ireland...the Emerald Isle!
10. Drink Green Beer! (Wait...what?!)
Did you know they make superhero beer? While you're drinking green beer tonight, think about looking for The Flash beer sometime in the future. Cool.
11. Look Out for Leprechauns!
If you're lucky, maybe you'll spot a leprechaun. You know what that means, right? GOLD! Or so they say. That's the thing with them, we can't see 'em. Endora from Bewitched? A witch. So, not like us.
12. Don't Drink and Drive!
Take Uber if you drink too much, which is probably what everyone from Brooklyn 99 will do after they get done drinking. Because the best thing about this St. Paddy's Day ending is knowing there's another coming next year!
13. You are NOT a Leprechaun
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Mac thought he could go green and maybe fit in with the leprechauns and their gold. Not so much. Don't drink so much you get confused. Keep it together!
14. It's Not Criminal If You Don't Have Plans
There are a lot of good movies around, after all. As a matter of fact, here's one you can watch at home via Amazon! The Guard stars Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle. Hijinks ensue when an Irish policeman joins forces with a strait-laced FBI agent to take down an international drug smuggling gang in Ireland. It's great and it's on the Tribeca Shortlist.
15. They Never Celebrated St. Patrick's Day on The Good Wife
Eli is shocked by this. I am shocked by this. With all the drinking Alicia has done on The Good Wife while living in Chicago where THEY DYE THE RIVER GREEN, we've never seen the two combined. We just can't.
16. Honorary Day for Redheads!
Doesn't everybody think every red haired person is Irish? It's like an honorary holiday for every red haired person by default. Plus, they look damn good in green. Mysteries of Laura is on the winning side of this one!
17. It's Easy to Go Green and Still Look Cool
See? Candice Accola King managed to go green and look good doing it. The Vampire Diaries? Never celebrated the holiday. What a travesty!
18. People LOVE Celebrating St. Patrick's Day!
People go overboard on St. Paddy's Day. Jim Belushi made sure you understood that on According to Jim. It's especially a great holiday for the guys, because BEER.
19. Even Annoying People Celebrate St. Paddy's Day
Archie Bunker wasn't above wearing of the Green and trying to make his wife, Edith smile. What a sight, right? Keeping it All in the Family. Aww, he's making me smile now.
20. An Excuse for Cheap Jewlry and Tawdry Makeup!
We Still Love Craig Ferguson. Even if he's Scottish. On the Drew Carey Show he antogonized Mimi. Mimi should have known her makeup wasn't going to make the transition to St. Patrick's Day. Fungus is among us.
21. Corned Beef and Cabbage
If you make it out for green beer (or a Guinness), hopefully you're going to a traditional Irish pub so you can get corned beef and cabbage, a traditional US St. Paddy's Day dish. Why? Because it reminded immigrants of home. That's right. This is only a US thing, and Irish-Americans (even honorary ones) have to keep this tradtion alive!
22. A Green Castle!
It's a shame Rick Castle and Kate Beckett never celebrated the holiday. The good news? Disneyland isn't above making sure THEIR castle gets in on the action!
23. Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!
And, finally, Archer just holds his ears while the girls make noise. Not only is this the Irish Christmas, but the Irish New Years, with fancy hats and noisemakers. We just wanted to have some fun with you!
