Kiefer Sutherland is Our Next President as ABC Officially Takes Designated Survivor to Series

Who is the next President of the United States?

It's Kiefer Sutherland!

At least he will be playing one on ABC's new series, Designated Survivor, this fall.

Sutherland plays Tom Kirkman, a lower cabinet member who becomes the President after an attack on Washington that apparently wipes out all other possible candidates.

Can you imagine being sworn in wearing a sweatshirt?

The guy will probably be scared sh*tless.

Who can ever be prepared for that?

Kirkman will struggle to keep the country, as well as his own family, from falling into a state of utter chaos as he is thrust into one of the most difficult presidencies in US history.

The very idea of this is already thrilling.

We've seen Sutherland take on the heroic bad-boy, but never a family man and lower level politician who has to tried to follow the rules to achieve the same results.

The series will also star Natascha McElhon, Maggie Q, Kal Penn, Adan Canto, Italia Ricci, LaMonica Garrett and Tanner Buchanan.

What's interesting is that while Sutherland will be in his new role as President, Fox will have an entirely new character saving the world on their 24 reboot. 

Surely they won't go up against each other in the time period.

Especially because Sutherland will be serving as an Executive Producer on 24: Legacy. 

That would make it awkward, but certainly profitable, for Sutherland!

It's been reported that Designated Survivor is one of the best tested pilots ABC has ever had.

From watching the teaser below, I'm already incredibly excited. 

There really isn't a better scenario than devastating, country-changing circumstances and a regular man (one of us, you know?) finding him in the position to right the ship.
