Shades of Blue Trailer

Jennifer Lopez will be pulling double duty this winter.

The singer/actress will once again sit alongside Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. on the final season of American Idol.

But she'll also have trouble straddling the line between good and evil on NBC, playing a crooked cop on the upcoming drama Shades of Blue.

In the first trailer for the series, we see Lopez as a New York detective and single mother named Harlee Santos.

Many years ago, she fell in with a tight-knit group of dirty cops (led by Ray Liotta), taking bribes and protection money that she then went ahead and use to provide the best life for her honest, talented daughter.

But what happens when Santos gets trapped by the FBI? Forced to wear a wire? Blackmailed to inform on her colleagues, including her not-very-nice boss?

As NBC teases in the YouTube description for this promo, she'll be forced to "walk the fine line between love, loyalty, honor and betrayal" while trying "to keep it together for her daughter's future."

It actually looks sort of promising, huh? If not a tad full of cliches and a mixed bag of things we've seen on many previous cop shows?

Shades of Blue will also star Drea de Matteo, premiere on January 14 and include a steamy sex scene in a boxing ring.
