Westworld Teaser Trailer: Violent Delights Have Violent Ends

at .

Technology has come a long way since 1973.

As such, it's about time technology caught up with the brilliance that was Michael Crichton's Westworld.

It's too bad he's not around any longer to enjoy HBO's adaption as a limited series. The first full trailer can be seen below.

Cinematically, it looks amazing.

Not only does it have the look and feel of a good western, but it has the stark and frightening cleanliness of a good sci-fi flick, as well.

The cast, including Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, Anthony Hopkins, Thandie Newton and James Marsden, seem to melt into their roles.

They fit as if they've never been anywhere else.

Watching the trailer, one has to wonder if men will ever learn. Women, even of the robotic nature, cannot be tamed.

From what I understand, at the Westerns: Now and Then  panel at the ATX Festival last week, the showrunners noted that by the finale, the robots will be wondering about their lives and trying to understand their place in this world.

What will make it doubly difficult for them is that they're in a fake world in the real world.

That will probably get to the men who are set free inside of Westworld, no rules, not guidebook, as well.

Doesn't power have that capacity? To drive people right out of their minds?

As HBO describes it, Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin.

Set at the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, it explores a world in which every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged.

That's a scary thought. Should any depravity be indulged, even if by sexbots or killbots? That will most likely be a question asked during the ten-episode series.

With the less than stellar chatter about this past winter's HBO series Vinyl, Westworld has a lot riding on its shoulders.

What are your initial thoughts after seeing the full trailer? In or out? Must see or give it a shot? Let us know!

Westworld will premiere on HBO in October.

HBO Quotes

Every successful business is full of people who spent money nurturing unremarkable talent.

Eric

Eric: Why are you here then?
Harper: Well, it's not a very political answer, but I think mediocrity is too well hidden by parents who hire private tutors. I am here on my own.
