TV Fanatic Staff Round Table: The Most Anticipated New Show

at .

It's that time of the year again. Not only are programs returning from winter break, networks are premiering a slew of midseason replacements, some of which have already bombed in the ratings (The Firm) and some of which are simply embarrassing (Work It).

But which new shows have the TV Fanatic staff buzzing? Various writers answer that question below.

Matt Richenthal: Smash. This may be cheating because I've already seen the pilot, but it's an intelligent, entertaining, creative drama. And from NBC! Who would have guessed?!?

Nick McHatton: This is an easy one for me: Awake. It's one the best pilots I have ever watched, and I can't wait to go back into that world every week. The characters, their depth, the bond that a man shares with his son and wife, it's all in there. Yet even with all of the pain and sadness that death can bring there's a lot of heart as well, it doesn't feel like a depressing show. Awake is truly must see TV. If only NBC would schedule the damn show.

Carissa Pavlica: Touch. If it can sustain the emotion I felt in the pilot, it will be one of the most inspirational scripted programs on television. Kiefer Sutherland is a fan favorite and should bring the audience, so I have faith it will make it past the first round into a season two pickup.

Lindsey Kempton: I'm also really looking forward to Awake. I just hope it's a fit for broadcast TV. I'd hate to see it to get stuck in the highly-acclaimed-but-hardly-watched vortex.

Jim Garner: Lost Girl on SyFy. Being a big fan of both Being Human (BBC/US) and a Buffy fan, this really appeals to my inner geek, or should I say inner-goth?

Chandel Charles: I know I'm going to be immediately assailed with verbal assaults, but I am ready to declare that FOX's The Finder, if played correctly, as an upset to all those critics who despised the airing of its pilot as an episode in the middle of Bones' sixth season. Hart Hanson and company went back to the drawing board on The Finder. Besides replacing some members of the cast (notably the red head who flaunted an accent that no one recognized, not even the people she was supposed to be emulating), the writing improved significantly and I have faith that this show could catch on.

Christine Orlando: I wish I'd had the time to watch more pilots but I'm looking forward to The River and Smash. As much as I don't like horror, I love a good mystery and I like sci-fi. I'm hoping The River delivers on both. And Smash just looks so upbeat and hopeful and I love Broadway so I'm in.

Dan Forcella: The River. I was sold on paranormal/horror/adventure series, but after hearing that many enjoyed the pilot, I am even more excited for this new one for ABC. The fantastic cast, and the edgy documentary style of filming, should make for a great watch this midseason.

Leigh Raines: Why am I blanking on newbies? I think GCB looks fun. Kristen Chenoweth was on Chelsea Lately this week and I'm a big fan of hers. We need some fun, light hearted drama on TV!

Carla Day: There are many promising new shows premiering this winter, but I am most looking forward to Smash. It is unlike anything else on television right now. It has a huge heart and demonstrates what is possible if you follow your dreams. The original and cover songs each episode are just an amazing bonus.

Your turn: What new show has you most excited?
