37 Big Screen Stars Who Have Moved to the Small Screen

at .  Updated at .

Alright, alright, alright!

We've known it for a long time, but now word has gotten around: television is not where old movie actors go to die. It's where the hottest movie actors come to thrive (and win awards).

Decades ago, big name movie stars used to grace television with their presence on movies of the week maybe once or twice a year. Now our small screens are littered with talented actors from all mediums. They go where the quality is, and it's on television.

When you take a look at the names on this list, you'll be shocked by the number of Academy Award Nominees (and actual winners) have made the move to the small screen. They are nominated as much for their performances as they are the incredible material they choose.

It's no coincidence the best in movies are flocking to television, and this year we have entire Productions made up of Oscar nominated talent. The American Horror Franchise attracts the best of the best and Fox's upcoming Wayward Pines is a who's who of Oscars past. Whether blockbusters or critical darlings, our actors have been there.

Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Lange, Nick Nolte, Viola Davis, Liev Schreiber, Melissa Leo and Matt Dillon all make the cut.

Flip through the slideshow and prepare to be wowed!
