Under the Dome Canceled After Three Seasons

at .

Under the Dome has been canceled.

The former solid performer has been slowly drifting away both creatively and in the ratings, but with three solid seasons under its belt, it's been a success story for the network, paving the way for a summer slate of thrillers such as Extant and Zoo.

Common Ground - Under the Dome

"Two years ago, Under the Dome broke new ground in the summer and became an instant hit on CBS, as well as with viewers around the world," said Nina Tassler, Chairman, CBS Entertainment. "Dome’s event storytelling and multi-platform business model paved the way for more original summer programming with the successful rollouts of Extant and Zoo. We’re excited to present the final chapter in Chester’s Mill as the story comes full circle, with the Dome coming down as dramatically as it went up."

The renewal prospects of Extant go up with this news, and Zoo is a very solid performer this summer, most likely to earn a sophomore season. All three series appear on Amazon Prime Video within a few days of broadcast.

CBS has already committed to a new straight-to-series thriller for 2016, BrainDead, from the creators of The Good Wife, Robert and Michelle King, about a young woman working in DC who discovers aliens have eaten the brains of a growing number of congressmen and Hill staffers.
