Once Upon a Time Season 7 is going to look like a whole new series when it debuts during the 2017-2018 season.
Rebecca Mader has announced she will not appear in the show's upcoming reboot, which means her character will exit the series during Sunday's Season 6 finale.
The producers of Once Upon a Time have been vocal about ending the main storyline at the close of Season 6, and with Jennifer Morrison departing, it's clear there are going to be quite some changes afoot.
For a start, Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas will not be series regulars next season. The only cast members currently slated to appear are Colin O'Donoghue, Lana Parrilla, and Robert Carlyle.
Mader took to Instagram to confirm her departure in an emotional statement.
"To my Darling Pretties, First of all, I would like to start by congratulating Adam, Eddie, Lana, Bobby and Colin on the pick up of Once Upon A Time!"
"I am truly happy for you all and most importantly for the fans that will get to keep tuning in each week to see where they will take us. A lot of you have been asking if I will be joining everyone in Season 7, so I wanted to let you know personally that unfortunately, I am not."
"This wasn't my choice but a creative decision of the shows that I totally respect and understand. The most important thing is that you all know how much you mean to me. I am told frequently both online and in person that by being a part of such a special show I have in some way changed someone's life."
"This is hugely meaningful to me. I am here to let you know that I am the one who has been changed. Not just by playing such a well written multi-dimensional character but by the fandom itself."
"I have heard your stories, your pain, your struggles, your achievements and I have truly felt you. I have learned. I have grown. I am a better person because of you, the fans and everyone that blessed me with this opportunity to play such an iconic role."
"Congrats all and thank you! I look forward to the next. I invite you to come with me on this journey. I am forever changed. And I'm wicked. And Wicked Always Wins. Forever yours, Bex."
Mader first appeared on Once Upon a Time Season 3 during the show's Wicked arc. Zelena became a fan-favorite, with her quick wit and ever-changing loyalties.
The reboot for the series makes a lot of sense when you consider the ratings for the series. Once Upon a Time Season 6 is down 30 percent to 3.2 million viewers and a 0.9 rating.
The show is still doing well when timeshifted viewing is factored in, but something tells me most of the cast members leaving was part of a plan to make the show cheaper to produce.
On the Season 6 finale, Emma will have her final battle to save the residents of Storybrooke one last time. It's unclear how the character will exit the series and fans have been questioning how it will play out considering Hook is signed as a regular for one more season.
ABC confirmed yesterday that Once Upon a Time Season 7 was a go.
