Jaina Lee Ortiz is swapping the sun-soaked streets of Miami for the colder climate of Seattle.

The former Rosewood actress has officially joined the Grey's Anatomy spin-off which has been ordered straight to series at ABC.

According to Deadline, the actress has been tapped to appear as the female lead on the new show which is set to follow a group of firefighters in Seattle.

The new series is being written Grey’s executive producer/co-showrunner Stacy McKee. Ten episodes have been ordered, and ABC is eyeing a midseason launch.

Little else is known about the newest entry to the Grey's Anatomy franchise, but it is widely expected that we will meet the characters of the spin-off in an upcoming episode of the veteran ABC soap.

Introducing the characters would be the best course of action when you consider that thirteen-year-old series is still ABC's highest-rated drama.

Ortiz previously appeared on Fox's Rosewood as a series regular, but the show was given the pink slip by Fox in May after Season 2 cratered in the ratings.

Rosewood Season 2 averaged just 0.7 rating among adults 18-49, which is down a substantial fifty percent from what Season 1 managed.

Details of Her Past - Rosewood

In short, the show's cancellation was not a surprise, and Ortiz thanked fans for investing their time in her first series regular role.

Her statement at the time reads:

Today is a special day. Today I say goodbye to my very first show, Rosewood. I say goodbye to Detective Annalise Villa. Damn, I'm gonna miss that woman.

To my partner in crime/the guy who mentored me and showed me the ropes on set. The beautiful Morris Chestnut, and when I say beautiful, I mean his HEART, his SOUL.

He is the most selfless person I think I've ever met. Kind and gracious. Our rock. Our captain. 5 days a week, 14 hours a day, he became one of my best-friends. Love you, Morrisito.

The cast...you're my family. To all the hardworking crew and writers... you showed me what "movie magic" was really made out of. It's created on the backs of your hard work.

Last but not least, this show and it's incredible characters were created by Todd Harthan. This guy said yes when everyone else told me no, and it has changed my life forever. I adore you. 💙

Gotta give a shoutout to all the fans who have supported and loved us from day 1.

The love you expressed via social media for the characters and the story is something we will cherish forever. Love u all! #Rosewood #Rosilla #2Seasons #grateful

Ortiz is currently recurring on USA Network's Shooter.
