Grey's Anatomy: Ellen Pompeo Says Goodbye to Jessica Capshaw & Sarah Drew

Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew have filmed their final scenes for Grey's Anatomy. 

Both actresses are departing the sudsy ABC medical drama before Grey's Anatomy Season 14 comes to a close. 

Their final scenes were filmed on Thursday, and series star, Ellen Pompeo took to Instagram to say goodbye to her colleagues. 

Pompeo shared the below picture of Capshaw. 

“Boom… @thank you @jessicacapshaw for bringing it the way you have brought it for 10 amazing years… what a blessing you are and what a contribution you made to television history,” Pompeo captioned the photo.

"Lit that screen up with your glow on the LGBT community… making a difference and making it all look so easy… GOAT #representationmatters #loveyou,” Pompeo concluded.

Meanwhile, Pompeo shared the below picture of Drew. 

“THANK YOU to this lady….@thesarahdrew you served up the sugar and spice for 9 years, and it’s been a blast,” Pompeo wrote.

“Your passion and talent for storytelling has touched so many people provoked thought, and Greys is a better show because of it and you. #japrilfansdontplay.”

The news of the exits were announced back in March, and it was met with much controversy. Some fans questioned the timeliness of the exits given that Pompeo received a salary bump. 

Ellen subsequently appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show and was quick to chime in with her thoughts on her salary being blamed.

“It’s absolutely not true,” she said.

“I mean, I’m not involved in these kind of decisions. However, there are a few problems that you encounter doing a show for 14 seasons."

"One of them is that writers have a really hard time creatively, thinking up new stories for all these characters. It’s always sad when we lose people, for whatever reason.”

Pompeo went one step further in her assessment of the situation, urging the media not to put women against each other.

“I think that it’s important for us to not pit women against each other and to really dispel the notion that women are always victims,” she added.

“We’re not enemies, we do lift each other up and support each other, and we’re not victims. We’re very strong, and we’re capable of many, many things.”

If you watch Grey's Anatomy online, you will likely be wondering how April and Arizona's stories will end given that there are just a handful of episodes remaining. 

Alas, we will find out Thursday, May 17 when the episode airs.
