Sam Velez used to serve in the Army and often exhibited PTSD episodes once he ran out of his anxiety medication once they were stranded in the clearing. His daughter Riley, who also studied medicine, knew how to talk him through it.

Most of the time, Sam was a natural-born leader and assisted in keeping the clearing peaceful and safe. Jon Seda portrayed Dr. Sam Velez.
