Recap

Eleanor admits that it was a year before she caught up with Gibbs in London.

She was sick and  they told her that she was pregnant.

The doctor victim blames her when she she shares that she was assaulted. He suggests that she consider terminating her child or consider other avenues.

There weren't a lot of housing options for Covey as a POC and she couldn't go back to the boarding house, so she went to Chinatown where she wouldn't be recognized.

Covey recalls her wedding day and a conversation she had with Pearl. Pearl brought her a gift that belonged to her mother. She tells Covey that Covey's mother left the island, she planned to come back for her.

Covey sought out a church in her time of need. A nun finds her crying and offers to help her by bringing her to a place for unwed mothers.

Covey meets the other girls, namely Irene, who will be due around the same time as her. She shares that her parents never liked her boyfriend and sent her there. Irene is planning to have her baby and take care of him with her boyfriend, Tony.

Covey has a rough pregnancy where she can't keep food down and tries to distance herself as much as possible from the child while getting dragged into all the different work that she has to do in order to stay.

Covey's friend Irene is upset that her boyfriend said he isn't ready to be a father, and she wants to find a way to keep her baby even though they all signed rights to their baby away.

Covey has a bad fall and starts bleeding. She instantly worries about the baby. She's amazed when she finally listends to Mabel's heartbeat for the first time.

Eleanor gets placed on bedrest, and that's when she starts to bond with the child and wonder about her child.

Irene goes into labor, and when she returns, she's despondent and depressed, which affects Covey and how she sees the whole situation.

Covey goes into labor and gets rushed to the hospital.

Covey has the baby and is in love with Mathilda. She goes in for feeding but Irene is having a hard time with breastfeeding and seems to be suffering from postpartum. Covey notices that Irene is deliberately pulling the baby off of her.

Covey has a final talk with Irene, and when she wakes up, Irene is gone. She went back home.

Covey attempts to escape with baby Mathilda. One of the nuns stops her and says that she needs to get some rest and they'll talk about things in the morning.

Flashes back to when Covey's mother left her behind. Pearl helped Mathilda leave and Mathilda planned to come back for Covey after she found a place for them. She asked Pearl to protect Covey for her.

When Covey wakes up, it's late into the morning, and they've already taken Mathilda and given her to another family.

She runs after the car as it leaves, but it's too late.

The nun tells her that the parents agreed to keep Mathilda as the middle name and then told her that it was time for her to leave.

She saw Gibbs weeks afterward and it was the perfect timing as she had lost her will to live.

Mabel is emotional listening to the recording and needs to take time after hearing the story.

Byron and Benny show Mabel the field of daffodils their mother built because the daffodils were in bloom when Mabel was born.

Eleanor tells the children that she wants them to figure out what happened to Covey's mother.

Eleanor tells them that Bunny is still out there and can give them more answers that they may have wanted.

Pearl ground up the poison for the cake.
