Emma takes Steve, an injured Indian, from her clinic to a nearby hospital. A car blows up outside, killing a man and injuring Emma with the blast. She ends up with a bump on her head. The victim is Emerson Charlie. Joe doesn't buy that the explosion was an accident. He discovers a timer spring in the door. Emma insists on a ceremony to put their family back in balance. Bernie brings in a horse thief on horseback since she got her car stuck in the sand pursuing him. A man kills the private eye he had hired to find a missing woman. Jim Chee is moonlighting as a P.I. Mrs. Vines, a rich, white woman, hires Jim to recover a box that was stolen from her husband BJ's safe before BJ returns. She belives the Indian cult The People of Darkness is responsible for the burglary. Her maid saw Tomas Charlie, Emerson's son, sneaking away with the box. Emerson introduced BJ to The People of Darkness. BJ was their benefactor for a while. Bernie realizes that the "alien" vessel Steve found belongs to the U.S. Air Force. Bernie's road is blocked by a three-horned sheep just like the one Steve described. Tomas tells Jim that BJ is a witch who gave Emerson cancer and that BJ and his hippy friends make up the cult. The killer watches their interaction. Joe comes looking for Tomas but he's disappeared. They go to look for the box. Bernie puts the sheep in a cell. In the fire, Joe finds a belt buckle that belonged to his son, who had worn it on the day he died. The killer wounds Jim. Joe retrieves his rifle just before his truck explodes. The killer escapes while under fire from Joe and Jim.
