Recap

Margo is in a police van with others from the park. There are 25 of them. She asks another passenger what’s going on, and he says they’re making an example of people who ask questions.

There is a Russian coup. On Mars, they’re worried about what’s happening in Star City. Svetlana says it’s not just Star City. She hasn’t heard from her father, who normally communicates like clockwork. Danielle gives bandwidth to all cosmonaut communications.

Hey! There’s Dev! He’s relaxing on the beach when a surfer walks by. They chat about the universe sending messages, an idea he scoffs at. It’s not sentient. He wonders if she knows she’s trespassing, and she says he doesn’t have enough that he wants to own the ocean, too? Fascist pig.

Kelly and Aleida are giving presentations about Kelly’s project. There are a lot of nos. I have to wonder if NASA is OK with her taking the project elsewhere. Aleida suggests another person with more money than he knows what to do with. Dev.

Mandy sends Miles a message about their situation. She’s concerned about money and is looking into getting a job. She wonders why he’s still up there if he can’t make the money like he thought.

Sam catches the end, shares that her husband demanded a quick divorce just before she took off, and suggests that they go drown their sorrows.

They talk about how much money the dude who runs the bar must be making, and it gives Miles an idea. He wonders if the guy could use help. He prefers to work alone. He says that the guy who took over his business on the moon got caught and charged with tax evasion. When the guy says no to Miles, Sam reminds him of what Miles does on the ship and his access to restricted areas.

It’s so depressing that there needs to be a criminal underground for people to make ends meet.

Since they do all the actual work, though, they can pretty much smuggle in anything.

Miles’s bank account increases to over six grand.

Ed’s hands are shaking during a mission, and he gives control over to Svetlana, making it seem like he’s being magnanimous. It reminds me of William Bell on The Resident.

Margo keeps telling people she’s a Canadian citizen and there must be a mistake. She has an attitude that wouldn’t be ideal under such a situation. They got her on interference with a soviet officer while conducting his duties, but he’s more concerned with the phone number she got on the bench. The number is to the third director of the KGB, and he’s currently opposing the orderly transition of the government.

She’s got to tell them what they want to know, but she doesn’t know what they want to know. There is a ruckus outside, driving home the severity of her situation. Gunshots are fired and people are yelling.

Svetlana admits to Ed that she’s in pain from the last mission, but nothing helps manage it. He invites her to his garden later in the evening.

Aleida and Kelly arrive at Dev’s place for their pitch. Dev doesn’t see the ROI Ono their proposal. This isn’t for him, he says, dismissing them by turning around in his chair. Kelly won’t accept that and gives him a piece of her mind. It doesn’t end well.

Svetlana is quite impressed with Ed’s garden, which reminds her of his father. He decides to show her his grow room for his stash. Karen’s friend gave him some seeds for his pain, and he planted them. They just took off. Svetlana had never smoked pot, it seems. She asks about his aches and pains, and he shows her his shaking hands. He doesn’t know what’s wrong. They touch hands, and she caresses his hand.

After working out, Dev reconsiders the proposal.

Margo is still in the interrogation room alone. Another man in a military uniform comes in to the room. He’s colonel Vido Kolikov. He apologizes that she got caught up in their politics. They are working to get Gorbachev back into power. He moves the table aside, and the man who was interrogating her is thrust in. He’s been beaten. The colonel asks about the card, and when the guy doesn’t answer correctly, he’s beaten again. The man wants to know who was there when he called the number. A watch repair shop who transferred the call to another man who said Margo was one of his most trusted customers.

The colonel knows that the number went to the second directorate and that he’s the one behind the coup. When he asks the fellow if Margo had told him who she was, he says no, and the colonel shoots his brains out.

Now covered in blood, Margo is hooked up to a pipe and pulled off her feet. The colonel wants to know about the woman who gave her the card. She will tell him everything she knows about the woman.

Miles upgraded the man’s still, but it begins making a loud noise and catches on fire. His compressor broke his still. The thermostat is fried. The still is going to be down a couple of months. Finding another thermostat isn’t easy as they’re no longer in production. But there is still one more on base. The North Koreans have it. Miles just says, hey, I’ll go over there and talk to them. Miles doesn’t think there’s any big deal to walking right up to them to ask.

Miles does something to the system of the North Koreans and tells the NK they need to check their air quality for a potential leak. Since there is already a Helios tech at the site, command resets the alert instead of giving a damn. Miles sells the safety issue, and the team evacuates. Lee comes back early and wants to know what’s in the case. He’ll report American espionage. Miles has to come clean. He tells him he needs it and it’s the only one on base.

Lee knows of the smuggling. They have eyes everywhere. He lets Miles keep it, but he has to help him in return.

When Kelly and Aleida get home, Dev is there to apologize about what he said about Karen. Karen was very important to him. He remembers his own father who was hurt so bad that he just gave up. He never saw the parallel until Kelly came through the door.

His idea is to take over Helios. He still owns a substantial amount of stock, and Kelly inherited a lot from her mom. If they can get enough stockholders to throw in with them, they can do it.

Aleida visits Bill Strausser. He’s in a wheelchair. Bill can’t believe that they’re trying to move forward on that project through the private sector. She’s just there for his shares. He’ll sign the fuckin’ thing, and then she can just go. They talk about why she hasn’t been there and why she left NASA. The asteroid thing was just too much. It was the last straw. Bill says he’ll never go back to work on any level.

The colonel asks Margo again about the woman. She’s been hanging there for a while. She doesn’t know who the woman is, so it’s hard for her to tell him what he wants to know. Someone comes into the room, and the Soviets all leave to talk. When the colonel returns, he lets Margo down and lets her go. The other man puts a bag over her head and takes her down the hall. The best part is that she can see through the bag, which has always bugged me on shows.

Dev interrupts a Helios board meeting with the news of his coup. He’s got his mojo back, giving an inspirational speech to those who remain stunned in the audience. Those who didn’t want to go to Mars, the finance department, the CEO, he fires them all on the spot. Now, Ilya is thanking Miles for what did. Lee opens the door, it’s Lee. He’s a new customer. He wants Ilya to bring him his wife.

Margo’s trip comes to an end. At her destination is the woman who gave her the card. She apologizes to Margo. It took her some time to reach her. Margo cries. It’s OK. She’s safe now. The woman wants Margo to work for her. The new government has taken over, and the woman, named Irina, has been named the new head of Roscosomas?? It’s a long walk from the truck to Star City for a battered woman.

For All Mankind Season 4 Episode 3 Quotes

Kelly: Yeah, maybe I shouldn’t have brought up my mom.
Aleida: Ya think?

Kelly: You know what? You’re full of shit. I remember when my mother first went to work for you. She told me she had never met someone so passionate about changing the world for the better. All your big plans to colonize Mars, the moons of Saturn, Jupiter? And now you’re, you’re holed up in Shangrila watching your bank accounts grow bigger and bigger, afraid to step foot outside of your house. What the hell happened to you?
Dev: You want to know what happened to me, Kelly? Your mother. She stabbed me in the back, but I’m grateful. I am because she pulled the wool from my eyes and helped me to see people for what they really are.
