Recap

Jackson is having nightmares and Lexie wakes him up to get ready for work. Derek gets home and wakes Meredith up to tell her he got his grant. She couldn’t be happier for him.

The night group gets to the hospital and Bailey assigns them to their stations. Meredith is with the new Dr. Starke.  Her new patient is having terrible pains in the abdominal.

Meredith calls Dr. Starke to check on her patient and he gets angry at her for interrupting his dinner. He tells Meredith that its just gas.

The rest of the doctors head to the bar and to their surprise Cristina is working there.  Owen told her to get a job, but wasn’t expecting her to become a bartender.

Everyone is getting a bit drunk and Callie asks Teddy if Arizona has said anything about her. Teddy seems fumbled.  Bailey has one too many and expresses her anger towards what happened with her patient Mary who died over a fistula.

Jackson and Lexie’s new patients Lucas and Riley. The boys got into a train accident that left one dead, Riley, and the other in critical condition.  Lucas, the survivor, is going through surgery.

April’s patients superglued themselves together because they don’t want to be pulled apart.  April is having a hard time getting them apart.  Bailey comes in drunk and gives April advice on love and how to get these two apart.

Teddy shows up at the hospital and Meredith wants her opinion, but she’s too drunk to give her anything but gossip about Cristina being a bartender at Joe’s.

Meredith realizes that her patient has a perforated ulcer.  She calls Alex in and they meet with the boys mom. They tell her that he’ll need surgery.

Starke is no where to be found so Meredith and Alex head to surgery without him.

Mark and Callie head home together and she tells him that she wants him. They start making out which leads to them in the sack.

Because of Jackson, Lucas survives. Jackson explains to Lexie how he can emphasize with Lucas about feeling lucky to be alive and hating himself for it.

The next morning, everything is sobering. Callie lays in bed next to Mark, Bailey points out to April that nothing ever happened, Alex and Meredith get yelled at by Starke for going through with the operation.

They all head home to get some good night (day) sleep.

Grey's Anatomy Season 7 Episode 9 Quotes

Jackson: Nice face.
Alex: At least I can do surgery. How's that hand?
Jackson: It'd be better if you hadn't run your face into it.

We doctors take pride in the fact that we can basically sleep standing up. Anytime, anywhere. But, it's a false pride because the truth is after twenty hours without sleep you might as well just come to work drunk, doctor or not. So it's no wonder that fatal medical errors increase at night when we doctors are proudly sleeping on our feet. Recently our communal pride has been shattered and our egos have been wounded by new laws that require we sleep all day before we work all night. We are not happy about it. But, as someone who might need medical care, you really should be.
