John and Kwan make their way to Rubble, a planet away from many asteroids, which puts the mission in great jeopardy.

When they touch down, weapons are aimed at them, and a man named Soren tells the people to stop.

In a flashback, we learn that Soren was a part of the Spartan program and escaped 22 years ago.

He was concerned about losing everyone he loved. John had helped him escape.

Soren took him to someone kidnapped by the Covenant, and insanity ensued. The man knew nothing of the object, only that it had great power.

He didn't believe John could power it ... until he threw it at him.

Desperate, the man says John is a different being, and that there's more to him than meets the eye.

John says he must return home and asks Soren to look after Kwan. He's concerned about the bounty on her head.

Soren reluctantly agrees and John returns to Reach. In the process, he finds himself in a lot of trouble.

Halsey manages to get the Cortana plan off the ground as a thinly veiled attempt at power.

Admiral is less than impressed with her actions, but it's making the best of a bad situation.
