On this episode of Hell on Wheels…

A flashback reveals Mei and Tao escaping China and heading to America.

Mei reveals to Cullen that she was wanted as a bride by one of the rebel leaders.

After some reluctance, he allows her to get back to work.

While the steam engine has replaced some of the workers, he offers them new work but for a cheaper price.

The workers are angry at the offer and the Chinese in general, believing that they are taking their jobs as well.

They attack Chang and attempt to hang him. Cullen and Tao manage to get to Chang in time.

Chang demands justice, to which Cullen mentions a trial.

Unfortunately, a trial doesn’t turn out, as Californian law prevents Chinese from testifying against white people.

Cullen notifies Chang and tells him that he will let the workers that tried to kill him leave.

Cullen gains a more solid relationship with Strobridge.

The Swede manipulates Phineas, and he even makes a deal with Chang.
