With Joyce on her way to Vassar, where she's being honored for her endowment to the college, Doug busts through the wall of his old office to find the engagement ring he hid in there as he prepares to propose to Tina.

Joyce and Shelly head to Vassar, and Joyce discusses her former professor there, whom she would like to write the prologue for her book.

Bambi visits Richie at the office as he's working on a self-portrait. She spikes his bellini with MDMA, unaware Richie had already taken drugs earlier. She then takes the pills he's taken, and the two engage in dancing and other activities at the office.

Before her mother's retirement party, Tina tells Doug he doesn't have to go, as she hasn't told them they're back together, but Doug insists he goes.

At the party, Doug is sat at the kid's table, and he bargains with one of the kids as he looks to how he can get "in" with the family.

While Joyce revels in the party being thrown for her on campus, Shelly makes friends with Doreen, who ends up being the professor Joyce was hoping would write the prologue for her book. But Joyce soon hears Doreen regurgitating the same things she once said to Joyce to Shelly.

Doug talks to Marvin, Tina's brother, who tells him the family doesn't like him because they feel he lured Tina away from taking over the family business. Later, Marvin tells the family that after talking with Doug, he wants to become a long-haul trucker.

Joyce walks in on Shelly and Doreen hooking up. And while discussing it, Shelly tells Joyce she's tired of everything always being about Joyce.

Tina tells her mother she's been promoted to take over the Minx international division, which she had yet to tell Doug. Later, Tina finds the engagement ring in Doug's jacket.

Shelly stays in Vassar longer, sending Joyce back alone. Joyce hooks up with her seatmate in the plane bathroom, and after, he admits to knowing who she is and asking for her autograph.
