It's Mardi Gras in New Orleans, and both Pride and Douglas Hamilton are kidnapped by a masked man, who demands that they "confess." The man is revealed to be Mike Spar, the husband of a woman who apparently committed suicide many years before, when Pride was still a Sheriff's deputy. Mike believes that Hamilton was responsible for her death and covered it up.
The team is called in for a dead Marine, and soon realize both Pride and Hamilton have been kidnapped, and the dead Marine is linked to the kidnapping. Tracing the drug used on the Marine and an NOPD officer, they identify Mike Spar as the suspect. Searching his house, they find the evidence regarding his wife's death.
Meanwhile, Mike produces a photo that proves Hamilton was at the frat party at which Mike's wife died, though Hamilton claims he left before that happened. When Mike asks about a particular necklace she was wearing, Hamilton recognizes the description and claims to know the identity of her killer.
After some prodding from Pride, Hamilton identifies the killer as one of his frat mates. Mike frees Pride, just as LaSalle and the other burst in. Mistaking the situation, they shoot Mike, who dies. With all of Mike's evidence, plus the recording of the entire event, they are able to arrest one of Hamilton's friends for the murder of Mike's wife.
