In the early 1900s, a woman begs a healer to let her have one healthy child, as her others have died.

in the late 1980s, a Korean man gets told he won't be getting a raise.

He tells the men he's the only one who will land a specific deal, and when he does, he wants the raise.

The woman gives birth to a healthy girl.

The man arrives in Osaka and heads to a Pachinko club.

He plays one round, loses, and then sees his father who runs the club.

They catch up and discuss the man's, Solomon's, success.

The young girl, named Sunja, walks through a fish market with her father.

Young Sunja watches as her father coughs up blood.

She watches as he dies.

Fast forward nine years later, and Sunja is in the fish market, being eyed by a mysterious man in a white suit.

He's the new broker for the marina.

He's enamored by her.
