Recap

Flashback to two weeks previously.

Jack Crusher hails Sarnia Prime as the Eleos approaches. Instead of granting him entry, two Fenris Ranger ships block the way.

The Ranger claims they’ve violated Fenris Ranger space en route to the quarantined planet. Jack has no authorization codes, so the Ranger intends to inspect the ship.

They find Romulan ale stored with the medical supplies. Jack offers to share. When he’s asked if that’s a bribe, he denies it. Instead, he offers them weapons that could be sold to the warring factions on the planet who engineered the Galarian Fever to clear out the populace. Jack offers to cut the Rangers in on 30% of the profit. They take a case of weapons.

As they’re leaving the ship, the lead Ranger contacts someone and tells them, “Reach out to the marked woman. We found him.” And then leaves the ship.

Return to present day.

Picard asks who the hunters are. Jack states he doesn’t know. First, it was the Rangers. Klingons the next day. Then Starfleet uniforms.

Jack wants medical attention for Beverly. Picard proposes they get her pod onto the shuttle and reach out to the Titan for help.

On the Titan, scanners pick up the hunter vessel. Seven thinks it’s going for Picard and asks La Forge how long to reach them. Shaw overrides the order, informs Seven he has no intention to rescue Riker and Picard, and tells La Forge to hold her position.

He dismisses Seven from the bridge.

On the Eleos, Jack notices the enemy is just circling. He insists they move Beverly’s pod immediately. Riker comments to Picard that Jack seems familiar somehow.

The enemy ship fires on the Eleos. The pod is losing power and the shuttle’s been knocked away from the Eleos. We see the debris flying away, revealing the name “Saavik” written on the hull.

Part Two: Disengage

Raffi watches a news report on the destruction of the recruitment center. The news reports there is a rumor the attack was perpetrated by a Romulan rebel leader, Lurak T’Luco. 117 are confirmed dead so far.

Raffi reaches out to her handler again. She blames herself for not moving fast enough on the Red Lady intel. Her handler advises her not to seek blame or anger. She’s fixated on finding out who really committed the crime.

The handler informs her the investigation has been terminated by Starfleet Command since the suspect has been identified. Raffi lists the many reasons that theory doesn’t work. The rumor tracks back to a Ferengi named Sneed.

She plans to track down Sneed, but her handler repeats that Starfleet has terminated the investigation and orders her to disengage.

She refuses to comply and cuts the com.

Seven reports to Shaw’s ready room. She reports the weapons activity suspected to be targeting Picard’s shuttle. Shaw will note it in his report. She points out that he can be remembered as a savior or a coward.

Jack and Riker consider their options as Picard moves around the bridge setting transporter inhibitors. When the enemy tries to beam Jack off the ship, they realize that he’s why they’re hunting the Eleos.

The enemy tries to transport on but Riker hits them with a grenade that disintegrates them.

The enemy vessel locks on with a tractor beam. The ship begins to shut down as the hull is breached and the structure starts to fail.

The Titan suddenly warps in and disrupts the tractor beam. Shaw orders Picard and Riker beamed aboard. Lt. T’Veen notes there are four life signs. Shaw agrees to bring them all onboard.

The Titan isn’t able to beam them over because of the inhibitors. Picard shoots them and tells the Titan to try again. He, Riker, and Jack materialize on the transporter pad.

Raffi finds her ex-husband and asks him to get her an audience with Sneed. Jay notes that she’s talking conspiracies and that’s always a sign she’s spiraling. She asks how he got out of the cycle and he tells her he chose their son over everything.

She persists with gaining entry into Sneed’s room. Jay offers to speak to their son, Gabe, about letting her into his life. Raffi’s delighted. However, Jay says she has to choose either Gabe or Sneed. He won’t arrange both.

She chooses Sneed.

On the Titan, Seven advises they run, but Shaw wants to know who the enemy is. Picard, Riker, and Jack come to the bridge under armed guard. The enemy hails the Titan.

The enemy introduces herself as Captain Vadic. She recognizes Shaw and Picard. She wants Jack Crusher. She claims she wants him for a bounty. Shaw reminds her Starfleet doesn’t negotiate with bounty hunters. She points out he is not in Federation Space. She then lowers her shields and invites them to scan her ship.

The weapons on her ship include: 40 isolytic burst warheads, 88 plasma torpedoes, 236 photon torpedoes, 18 anti-matter missiles, 20 pulse wave, 30 series 5. Shaw is sombered by the inventory.

Vadic gives them one hour to hand Jack over. To make sure they understand her intentions, she uses her ship’s tractor beam to throw the Eleos at them.

Shaw wants intel on Vadic but there’s nothing in the Starfleet database. Seven shares that there are rumors of a ship flying no flag but boasting all the weapons. She gives him the intel on Jack Crusher.

Picard is questioning Jack, who is resistant to answering. Shaw and security come in to take Jack into custody as he has an extensive list of crimes for which he is wanted.

Seven tries to tell Shaw the enemy vessel is clearly not a bounty hunter ship. He cuts her off and relieves her of duty for insubordination.

Picard requests the opportunity to talk to Jack before Shaw turns him over to Vadic.

In the turbolift, Riker tries to get Picard to admit Jack might be his son.

Picard confronts Jack with a list of his alleged crimes. He insists Beverly wouldn’t permit her son or shipmate commit crimes. Jack tells him she taught him everything he knows. Picard refuses to believe it, but Jack challenges him, asking how long it’s been since he even spoke with Beverly.

Picard demands to know who Jack’s father is. Jack states he never had one.Jack offers to hand himself over if it’ll give Beverly a fighting chance of survival. Picard leaves to consider the options.

At Jay’s club, Raffi talks her way past Sneed’s doorman. She’s brought to Sneed, who offers her a seat. She wants to know who Sneed actually brokered the portal tech deal for, claiming to know T’Luco didn’t push the button because she works for him.

Sneed suspects she’s Starfleet and the only way to convince him that she’s not is to take a hit of his drug. She takes the hit. He asks her who she works for and she sticks to her story.

He laughs and congratulates her on her resistance to the drug. He reveals he knows she doesn’t work for T’Luco because he has T’Luco’s head in a box behind his bench.

He orders his henchmen to kill her. When he reaches to grab the currency, she spears his hand to the table. A blade kills one of the henchmen. Raffi grabs Sneed’s tablet but the drug effect knocks her out. The new fighter in the room dispatches everyone, including Sneed.

It’s Worf. He picks up Raffi, commenting that she was told to disengage, revealing that he is her handler.

Picard and Riker approach Shaw to ask he consider a course of action that does not involve handing over Jack. Shaw denies the request.

In the brig, Jack escapes. In sick bay, Riker checks on Beverly. The doctor says she’ll survive but is heavily sedated. Riker loads a hypospray to wake her up.

On the bridge, Picard is arguing with Shaw. Vadic hails them. She tells them her vessel is the Shrike, named for the small carrion bird, and she threatens to peck them to pieces while she waits for them to turn Jack over.

Shaw decides to turn Jack over immediately, but the security breach at the brig is reported just then.

Seven finds Jack in the transporter room. He wants to be beamed to the Shrike. Shaw is eager to comply. He orders the transporters unlocked. Riker brings Beverly onto the bridge.

Beverly and Picard lock eyes and there’s an understanding conveyed. Picard orders everything locked down to keep Jack on the ship. Shaw asks him why, and Picard informs him that Jack is his son.

Picard opens a channel to the Shrike. Vadic asks for his answer and Picard orders the Titan to engage. They fire on the Shrike and make a run for it. Vadic laughs maniacally and they pursue the Titan into the nebula.

Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Episode 2 Quotes

Jack: Look, we all know the warlords down there engineered the fever in order to clear the free zone from refugees before the others could claim it. I give half to one warlord, half to another. Cut you in for, say, twenty-five?
Ranger: Thirty-five
Jack: Thirty percent of the take. Then pew pew pew … it’s bad guys shooting bad guys and we help refugees by curing a pandemic. Oh, mon ami, we’re basically saints.

Fenris Ranger: As a medical expert, I assume you are aware of the protocols. Which you are currently in violation of at least… oh, twenty-seven, give or take.
Jack: Protocols which will have the desired effect of killing the disease by killing everybody who carries it.
