On The Good Doctor Season 3 Episode 15, Shaun has a patient who has been born without a trachea and larynx. As a result, the patient is unable to speak and only communicates through sign language.

Shaun assists on a surgery to repair the trachea, but afterward he is convinced the child should get an experimental surgery to allow him to speak. The parents think it's unnecessary and dangerous, but Shaun says that the inability to speak will limit the child.

Later, the kid is unhappy and wants the surgery. The parents agree, shocked that he is so unhappy.

Meanwhile, Morgan gets it in her head that Carly should be jealous of Lea and won't leave Shaun alone about it. Carly claims not to be jealous but after seeing Shaun sing with Lea at karaoke decides Morgan is right and breaks up with Shaun so he can be with his "true love."

Finally, Melendez avoids doing anything with Claire outside of work or allowing her to assist much on surgeries to avoid the appearance of favoritism, while Lim warns Morgan that filing a report against Melendez won't stop her from getting fired if it is warranted.
