Recap

Upon learning of the arrest of Fred and Serena in Canada and the disappearance of Commander Winslow, several of the other Commanders meet with Commander Lawrence to try and figure out what is happening. Eleanor notifies June they are there and suggests helping Beth in the kitchen. Beth informs June that Billy is on board with their plan. June offers to take the coffee to the men so she can find out what is going on. Commander Lawrence notes that he has been stripped of his high-level clearance and they are only coming to him because the other Commanders are missing. They inform him that his clearance can be restored. The men leave and Commander Lawrence informs June that Fred and Serena have been arrested in Canada. June sees Rita at the store and Rita informs her that she would like to help with her plan. She also tells June that she is proud of her. In Canada, Serena confessed to Fred that she played a part in their capture. He is visibly disturbed and looks as if he could kill her. Olivia and Mrs.Putnam visit the Lawrence household to ask for prayers and assistance with finding Commander Winslow. Eleanor almost slips up and reveals their plan, but Commander Lawrence covers their tracks. Moira and Luke take Nichole to the facility where Fred and Serena are being held. They have agreed to let Serena see Nichole so that Luke can confront Fred face to face. Moira confronts Serena about her role in helping Fred assault June and informs her that she was a victim of his assault as well. Eleanor tries to leave to gather more children to rescue. June stops her by slamming her against the wall and screaming at her. Eleanor retreats to her room. June later finds her struggling to breathe in bed and discovers a bottle of pills beside her bed. She considers getting help but decides against it. June leaves the room like she was never there and a Martha finds Eleanor the next day. As June is helping to prepare food for after Eleanor's funeral, Commander Lawrence informs her that he was able to keep the border open. Luke confronts Fred and gets to take a swing at him after Fred makes a remark about June.

The Handmaid's Tale Season 3 Episode 12 Quotes

Commander Lawrence: Well, you're off the hook, or off the wall, I should say for now.
June: What happened?
Commander Lawrence: Lucky for you they think Winslow is just missing. That he got taken in a plot by those tricky Americans.
June: Taken?
Commander Lawrence: Captured, snatched, like the Waterfords. Who are now in custody in Toronto. They went rogue expecting to get your baby back, but they were ambushed.
June: They're in prison?
Commander Lawrence: Facing trial as war criminals. I guess they didn't bring 52 kids with them. What is the deal with the plane?
June: A week.
Commander Lawrence: Can't come soon enough.
June: Yes sir.
Commander Lawrence: Cheer up. Fred and Serena are toast and you just got away with murder. All in all, not a bad morning.

Fred: Did they hurt you?
Serena: No. No of course not.
Fred: Tell them you've done nothing wrong. You played no part in any of it.
Serena: Fred, don't say anything to them. Listen, we don't have much time. Listen to me, don't give them anything they can use against you in the trial.
Fred: I won't. Gilead will demand our release.
Serena: No, but you have to be smart. This could mean life in prison or it could mean extradition somewhere that...
Fred: Look at me. I won't let anything happen to you.
Serena: You have to stop worrying about me now. You have to save yourself. I'll be fine.
Fred: What have you done? What have you done?
Serena: I wanna be my daughter.
Fred: How could you?
Serena: Please try to understand.
Fred: It's always been about you. What you want, what you need.
Serena: She needs me. My daughter needs me.
Fred: I pity the child that has you as her mother.
Serena: I will pray for you, Fred.
