John, Rip, and Jamie look at horses, attempting to buy one from Travis. Travis wants 5 million for the best horse.

They are interrupted by Monica and Tate showing up. Tate looks sad.

John tells Jamie that no one will tell him where Kayce is. He wants Jamie to take the chopper and go get him. 

Monica tells John that no one will tell her what Kayce is being charged with either. John sends Tate to get cookies and encourages Monica to move off the reservation when they get Kayce back.

The tribal police have Kayce and want him to tell them about the two burned bodies. He asks for a lawyer. Rainwater says lawyers are in short supply on the reservation. Kayce tells them about the abducted girl. Jamie shows up and gets Ben to admit he traded clips with Kayce and takes Kayce home. Kayce is surprised to hear his family is at the ranch.

Rip goes to the prison and calls over a guy in a cowboy hat who has just been released. The guy, Walker, was in for manslaughter after puniching a man who died. Rip tells him none of that if he wants to work for him, and he has to take a brand. Walker doesn't care as long as he doesn't go back to prison.

Beth is with Bob and sees Dan. She decides to mess with Dan and his wife and acts like she wants to be his wife's best friend.

Lloyd wants Jimmy to help him and the other cowboys. He tells Jimmy to stop walking the horse. Jimmy doubles over in pain. Lloyd tells him to let go of his shame.

John plays with Tate, showing him how to throw rocks in a trough full of water to make it splash. Monica is surprised. John is not like the man she's heard stories about. John says grandchildren are a second chance.

John tries to convince Kayce to stay. He's convinced he'll lose him if he goes back to the reservation. Kayce doesn't want to, but agrees to train the untrainable horse.

Jamie arranges a meeting for Monica with Mel Thompson, the President of Montana State, who offers her a teaching job. However, Monica turns it down because she doesn't want to leave the reservation short a teacher, and she doesn't care that John doesn't understand that. She goes and John tells Jamie that Kayce and Monica are both allergic to logic. He needs leverage.

Tate tells Kayce he wants to stay here and that their home ont he reservation sucks. Kayce snaps at him never to say that again. Tate begins crying and runs off.

Kayce tells John there is nothing wrong with the horse and they can go home. Tate wants to stay the night. Monica thinks it's a good idea so they can recharge before she has to explain why his cousins moved away.

Beth is drunk and the valet won't give her her keys, not even when she bribes him. She calls Jamie, who doesn't want to go but does. Beth pulls a gun on him and says he never lost anything. He didn't watch their mother die with hatred in her heart.

Dan's wife loved Beth. She goes down the hall drunk. 

John is reading with Tate when Beth stumbles drunkly down the hall. Beth runs into a room and screams.

Jamie tells John to send Beth away. John won't. He needs someone evil. 

Kayce and Monica are kissing in the cabin, but Kayce gets mad when Monica asks him if it's selfish to keep Tate from this life.

Monica goes for a walk and witnesses Rip branding Walker.
