Rip isn't sure  what kind of day this'll be as he and John watch Jimmy with the horses.

Some white construction workers are angry that Rainwater has demanded an area be sealed as they have discovered some bones in a hole. One of them claims that they're probably old bones of a Mormon who got scalped. Rainwater has had enough and advances on him with one of the bones, making him puke. 

Jimmy falls off his horse trying to help herd cattle. He tells Lloyd he doesn't think he's cut out to. be a cowboy. Lloyd tells him that nobody is and advises him to find his hat before he returns to the bunkhouse.

There are graphic reminders of the violence as Monica tries to clean her sister-in-law's house while Tate's cousins cry. Monica tells Kayce that this was a sacrifice—Samantha couldn't afford to take care of the kids but her parents wouldn't take them if she were alive. Later, Monica tells Kayce that the children's grandparents are taking them soon. Everyone is disappearing from the reservation, which fits the settlers' plan. She wants Kayce to take Tate away somewhere. Kayce takes Tate to see John.

At a rodeo, a man tells another that John has colon cancer and should not be riding.

Beth is waiting for Dan Jenkins, smoking a cigarette even though it's against the rules. A manager tries to get her to put it out and gets nowhere.

Meanwhile, Emmett comes to see John and tell him to step aside for a younger man. John points out no such man exists.

Kayce asks John to entertain Tate.

Samantha's mother arrives and tells Monica this is why she wanted her daughter to get away from this reservation. She ignores Monica's offer to help. She leaves with the kids.

Monica takes a shower. The tribal police arrive with Rainwater, looking for Kayce. 

John has Tate collect twigs for firewood by the river. Tate falls in. John jumps in and saves him.

Tate is cold. John starts the fire. Tate collapses. John makes him sit up.

Jimmy finally comes back with a calf he found. Rip has him put it in the pen. A guy named Fred decides to be a bully and trip Jimmy, starting a fight. Jimmy won't stop no matter how many times Fred beats him up. Fred thinks he's gonna teach Jimmy a lesson, but Rip comes along and beats Fred up. He says Jimmy is branded so Fred better leave him alone. Jimmy says he started it. Rip doesn't care. He tells Fred to clean the stalls. Fred won't so Rip fires him and tells Jimmy that they are family and take care of each other.

Tate notices John's surgical scar. John makes up a story about being attacked by a goblin. He says he will miss Tate. Tate asks where he's going. John tells him Tate will grow up and not want to hear an old man's stories. That's just how it is. Tate says they will always have today. 

Jenkins complains to Beth that his family lives here. Beth suggests they go elsewhere. Jenkins goes out and Beth puts $100 on the table, refusing to let Jenkins pay for her drinks.

John returns with Tate, saying that Kayce has every right to be upset with him. John tell Kayce that Tate is okay but will need stitches. Tate says Grandpa saved me when I fell in the river!

After Kayce and Tate go, Rip tells John about Fred. Joh wants to get a branded guy from the prison, reminding Rip that Rip didn't deserve the brand when he first got it.

Beth messes with Jenkins at the bar, getting him beat up by a horny cowboy. Jenkins is disgusted and goes.

John is visibly upset about almost losing Tate and maybe about losing Lee. He burns money in the fireplace.

Lloyd takes Fred to the "train station," which means he takes him to the middle of nowhere and kills him.

Monica comes to the hospital where Tate excitedly says he fell in the river and a nurse says not to blame themselves.

Later, while driving home with a sleeping Tate, Kayce and Monica are pulled over and Kayce is arrested. 

Rip meets Beth in the bar. He thinks she looks good in neon.
