9 Most Memorable I Love Lucy Moments

at .

This Sunday, May 16th, CBS will air the I Love Lucy Superstar Special with two original installments running back to back.

Why rerun a show that first graced TV screens 60 years ago? You only have to watch an episode to realize why this sitcom from television's early days has endured.

From showing the first actual pregnant woman on TV (although the censors at the time wouldn't allow them to use the term "pregnant"), to airing the longest laugh from a live studio audience, check out our top nine memorable moments from the TV classic, I Love Lucy

1. Lucy and the Chocolate Factory Clip

In this classic I Love Lucy episode, Lucy and Ethel go out and get jobs while Ricky and Fred take over the household chores. Both sides are hilarious but it’s the girls struggles at the candy factory that everyone recalls as the most memorable scene.

2. I Love Lucy Vitameatavegamin Clip

Lucy finally gets in front of the cameras when she does a commercial for Vitameatavegamin. It claims that it's not only good for you but “It’s so tasty too! Just like candy.” From the look on her face, we’d say not so much. But after several takes it appears the high alcohol content is the product’s real selling appeal.

3. I Love Lucy We're Having a Baby Clip

When Lucy finds out she’s pregnant, Ricky is so busy she doesn't have the chance to tell him, so she heads to the club to find him. It turns out to be one of the sweetest, most touching scenes of the entire series.

4. I Love Lucy Goes to the Hospital Clip

Ricky and the Mertzes do several run throughs to make sure they’re ready to take Lucy to the hospital but when the time comes, all that prior planning turns into hysterical chaos.

5. I Love Lucy Harpo Marx Clip

When Lucy tries to trick her friend into thinking she saw Harpo Marx, little does she know Ricky has sent over the real deal. Lucy and Harpo's mirror gag took hours to get right. It was one of the few skits that wasn't finished in front of the live studio audience because Lucille Ball wanted it to be perfect. We’d say she got it right.

6. I Love Lucy Stomping Grapes

While in Italy, Lucy has the opportunity to be in an Italian movie. In order to assure her performance as a peasant woman is authentic, she masquerades as a grape stomper. The story behind the story is that the Italian women in the scene was told to playfully fight with Lucy in the tank but something got lost in the translation and what we see on screen is a real brawl where Lucy feared she might drown in the grapes!

7. I Love Lucy Ricky's Going Bald Clip

Ricky becomes obsessed with the idea that he’s going bald. When she can’t convince him he’s being silly, Lucy decides to try and scare him out of his paranoia by combining every supposed cure for baldness she can find into one ridiculous scene that will put your hair on end.

8. I Love Lucy Bon Voyage Clip

The Ricardos and the Mertzes take a cruise but leave it to Lucy to miss the ship. The only way to catch up is to be lowered down via helicopter!

9. I Love Lucy Superman Clip

Trying to keep up with her rival’s amazing birthday party for their child, Lucy promises that the real Superman will be at Little Ricky’s party but when she can’t get him, she decides to dress up as the Man of Steel herself. Trying to keep her appearance a surprise she ends up stranded on the ledge and has to be rescued by the real Superman. In a behind the scenes note, George Reeves’ (who was the star of the 1950s TV show Adventures of Superman) name was never listed in the credits for this episode because Lucille Ball wanted to preserve the fantasy of the “real” Superman for her children.
