Are you ready to check-in (and check out) New Amsterdam

The premiere of NBC's medical drama starring The Blacklist's Ryan Eggold is less than a week away. The series is inspired by a true story, and it is sure to tug on a few heartstrings with a powerful tagline like "Break the Rules. Heal the system."

New Amsterdam plans on putting the "care" back in healthcare. If you're eagerly anticipating this new series, get to know the characters and check out the stills below! Don't forget to hit the comments!

New Amsterdam premieres September. 25 at 10/9c on NBC!

1. Dr. Max Goodwin - New Amsterdam

Ryan Eggold stars in NBC's new medical drama "New Amsterdam" as newly appointed Medical Director Max Goodwin. Max comes into the historical New Amsterdam hospital with plans for reworking the healthcare system by being patient-oriented first and foremost.

2. Dr. Helen Sharpe - New Amsterdam

Freema Agyeman stars on New Amsterdam as Dr. Helen Sharpe. Helen is the whirlwind woman who is often tasked with getting funding for the underfunded New Amsterdam hospital.

3. Dr. Lauren Bloom - New Amsterdam

Janet Montgomery stars on New Amsterdam as Dr. Lauren Bloom. Tune in to learn more about her on September. 25.

4. Dr. Floyd Reynolds - New Amsterdam

Jocko Sims stars on New Amsterdam as Dr. Floyd Reynolds. He stands out as one of the doctors in the Cardio Department. Will he have what it takes to help Max restructure the system?

5. Dr. Vijay Kapoor - New Amsterdam

Anupam Kher stars as Dr. Vijay Kapoor on the new medical drama New Amsterdam. We can't wait to learn more about the character played by this legendary Indian film and theater star.

6. Dr. Iggy Frome - New Amsterdam

Tyler Labine stars as New Amsterdam's resident psychiatrist. Every medical drama should have a great psychiatrist in the vicinity.

7. Determined Max - New Amsterdam

When a new case comes into New Amsterdam, Max is determined to get to the bottom of what is making his patient ill. A man who preaches about healing the system would be exceptionally patient-oriented.

8. Healing Hands - New Amsterdam

Dr. Reynolds is on the scene and tending to a patient in need with his fellow colleague. If it's a matter of the heart, it could explain why he has the patient lying on their side.

9. Meeting of Minds - New Amsterdam

Max and Iggy have a chat in what appears to be a room for children. Will one of the many cases that flood the hospital have to do with a child with psychological needs that need to be met? We'll have to see!

10. Informing the Patient - New Amsterdam

Dr. Kapoor consults with his patient and speaks to the patient's loved ones about her condition. Whether or not it's good news or bad news can't be determined yet.

11. Doctors Need Doctors, Too - New Amsterdam

The New Amsterdam trailer teased something about Max needing a throat biopsy, and it looks as though he's receiving just that. Lauren appears to be the one administering it.

12. Eyes Forward! - New Amsterdam

We can't tell what's happening in this shot, but we can see that everyone is looking in a different direction. What is it that has (or rather, doesn't have) the medical staff's attention?

13. On the Move - New Amsterdam

It's not a medical series until you see a doctor or two racing down the hallways during an emergency. New Amsterdam is no exception. Of course, Max seems like the type of guy who will always be on the move if it means providing his patients with quality care.

14. Professional Comfort - New Amsterdam

Giving comfort without overstepping bounds is a balancing act for a psychiatrist. It looks like Iggy is trying to help one of his patients here, but knowing when and to what extent is always key.

15. Getting the Rundown - New Amsterdam

Lauren is getting the rundown on one of her patients so she can determine the best way to treat the person. Will Max's new approach to healthcare be a hindrance or a godsend for her?

16. Center of Attention - New Amsterdam

Max is the new medical director at New Amsterdam, and his outlook on how to best treat patients effectively may be a bit controversial for the others. He proposes a system that will have them healing as many people as they can before they're stopped, but what will the others have to say about that?

17. His Watchful Eye - New Amsterdam

Under most circumstances, no one wants to be under the watchful eye of anyone, but if you're in the hospital, Max is the guy you want in your corner. With him on your case, you're guaranteed quality care.

18. Things Look Grim - New Amsterdam

It's a scary sight when there is not one but two doctors by your bedside, right? Not to mention the fact that there is a worried husband by your side too. Hopefully, this woman is not receiving the worst news anyone could ever here.

19. And Baby Makes Three? - New Amsterdam

Max is ultra interested in that ultrasound, isn't he? He could be supporting a patient, but he's really into it and he has a wedding band on his finger, so maybe that's his wife. Mazel Tov!

New Amsterdam Season 1 Episode 1 Quotes

My sister Luna and I were born here in New Amsterdam, and eight years later, Luna died here. Hospital-acquired infection. Entirely preventable.

Max

Max: Unlike the previous medical director, I actually expect you to practice medicine at this hospital because I don't know, that's your job.
Helen: You're funny.
Max: You said that.
Helen: I'll tell you what, I'll continue giving speeches all over the world because you can't afford the type of publicity I give this hospital. And I'll continue my on-air appearances with Ellen, Oprah, and anyone else powerful enough to go by one name because someone has to remind New York that even though New Amsterdam is an underfunded public hospital, we can still go toe-to-toe with the privates from basic care to state of the art procedures. I will be back next week with lunch at the Tavern. My treat.
