Grey's Anatomy Moving to Thursdays

by at . Comments
In a surprising move, ABC announced that Grey's Anatomy will officially move to Thursdays at 9 p.m. beginning next fall.
McVet Moves In

The shift triggers a brutal showdown for the Thursday 9 p.m. slot, long considered one of the most prestigious in prime time. Meredith and company will be taking on CBS' smash hit CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, as well as NBC's new comedy-drama Studio 60. CSI is presently the top-rated scripted show on TV.

The move was the most drastic of a laundry list of changes issued by ABC, which nixed all but two of its sitcoms and announced 15 new series - six comedy, six drama, three reality - for 2006-07. The network plans on using both Grey's Anatomy and its (now-former) Sunday lead-in, Desperate Housewives, to bolster new shows:

  • Brothers & Sisters, a drama about siblings forced to take over the family business after their father dies, stars Calista Flockhart and will take over the coveted 10 p.m. Sunday slot behind Housewives.
  • Six Degrees, a high-concept relationship drama co-created by J.J. Abrams (of Lost and Alias fame), and previewed during the Grey's Anatomy season finale, will follow Grey's on Thursdays at 10. It follows six New Yorkers who don't know each other (yet) but are indirectly changing each other's lives. It stars Erika Christensen, Hope Davis, Campbell Scott and Bridget Moynihan, among others.

Needless to say, we'll tune in whenever we need to. Thursday, Sunday, what does it matter? All we care about is watching Dr. Burke recover while Meredith chooses McVet (or that other guy who wants her).

I love Grey's Anatomy - from the very first episode. I will not be watching it anymore now that it has moved to Thursdays!! I hate it during the week as Sunday is the only night I get to sit down and watch good TV! Why do they always move the good shows around like that? You have a hit on SUnday night so leave it alone!!

Well, I hate it being on thursdays, I had to rearrange my soccer, dance, vocal, and tennis for it. Besides, I loved jabbering on all week about the new episode at school! Does this mean we only have *ONE* day to jabber!? Oh that sucks.

i hate it being on thursdays. this is beyond my favorite show. and now i have school and shit. and cant watch it. erg. i love greys anatomy.

I'll watch but im gunna lose the best 3 hours of tv on abc!!!!! cry cry cry!!!!!

I will not be watching...the only time I can watch is on Sunday, they will be losing a lot of viewers. I'm sure of it.

OMG this is the night fr the OC. O Well I'm going to have to dvr OC and watch Grey's cause it just don't feel the same when I watch it on dvr. Seems like I'm being cheated.(smile) The only way I wll dvr it is that I start working at nights. I LOVE GREY'S ANATOMY BETTER THAN PEPSI. About Six Degress does'nt Erika Christian resemble Julia Stiles? Someone comment on this.

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

Did you say it? 'I love you. I don't ever want to live without you. You changed my life.' Did you say it? Make a plan. Set a goal. Work toward it, but every now and then, look around; Drink it in 'cause this is it. It might all be gone tomorrow."

Meredith (closing voiceover)

Lexie: [narrating] Grief may be a thing we all have in common, but it looks different on everyone.
Mark: It isn't just death we have to grieve. It's life. It's loss. It's change.
Alex: And when we wonder why it has to suck so much sometimes, has to hurt so bad. The thing we gotta try to remember is that it can turn on a dime.
Izzie: That's how you stay alive. When it hurts so much you can't breathe, that's how you survive.
Derek: By remembering that one day, somehow, impossibly, you won't feel this way. It won't hurt this much.
Bailey: Grief comes in its own time for everyone, in its own way.
Owen: So the best we can do, the best anyone can do, is try for honesty.
Meredith: The really crappy thing, the very worst part of grief is that you can't control it.
Arizona: The best we can do is try to let ourselves feel it when it comes.
Callie: And let it go when we can.
Meredith: The very worst part is that the minute you think you're past it, it starts all over again.
Cristina: And always, every time, it takes your breath away.
Meredith: There are five stages of grief. They look different on all of us, but there are always five.
Alex: Denial.
Derek: Anger.
Bailey: Bargaining.
Lexie: Depression.
Richard: Acceptance.
