Ellen Pompeo, Chris Ivery Engaged!

at . Comments
Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery, her boyfriend of nearly three years, are officially engaged, Us Weekly reports.

Ivery, 38, proposed on Friday -- which was Pompeo's 37th birthday -- with a 3.5-carat emerald-cut diamond and platinum ring by Tacori.

That's quite the birthday gift, but their relationship is laid-back. Chris popped the question after breakfast at home, and following that, he and Ellen proceeded to celebrate with a fairly low-key day.

"We had a great day," Pompeo told People. "We walked on the beach, then we came home, took a shower and went out for sushi. Then we laid on the couch with the dogs and watched TV."

Pompeo has risen to fame as Meredith Grey on Grey’s Anatomy. She has also starred in various movies, including Old School and Moonlight Mile. Ivery is a music producer she met in an L.A. grocery store, and though Pompeo wasn't interested in a date originally, she agreed to go out with Ivery when they bumped into each other again six months later.

That's when they discovered that they grew up 10 miles from each other outside of Boston and that Chris knew Ellen's father.

"I had to go 3,000 miles away to meet a guy who practically grew up next door," Pompeo told the Boston Herald last year. "But I guess everything comes full circle."

Although the couple has not yet set a date or location for the big day, the romantic European destination of Italy might be a good guess.

"My boyfriend and I travel to Italy quite often and I think that’s always the most romantic for us," Pompeo told Us earlier this year. "We went to Bologna and he has family there and I think that’s our favorite place."

Congratulations to the happy couple! It's great that Ellen is happy with her real-life McDreamy. Below is a picture a fan sent us of the two of them taken on the day of their engagement!

The black beast of the field is domesticating itself to human status via racial gene theft. What were once known as GODS children that are now allowing this subhuman species to procreate shall surely die ! THUS SAYETH THE LORD !!

I'm an African American woman however I have blonde hair (natural) and blue eyes (also natural). Ian, don't think because you have blond hair and blue eyes that makes you white. It makes people guess at what you are (besides obviously ignorant). BTW, I'm from Louisiana where who the hell knows what's in your background.

The whole race thing is really not supposed to be the topic here. The facts are really simple when it comes to racial issues in this country. Most of us do not care about race. Then there are a small percentage of every race and nationality among us that are racist towards others. These small groups (minorities themselves in the grand scheme of things) are obviously entitled to thier oppinions regardless of how fruitless and obsurd they may be.
With that being said, I'd like to ask what I consider to be a more compelling question. When did Chris Ivery become a celebrity? Ellen is obviously a talented actress and an accomplished celebrity. But I see alot of commentary lately about Chris being a celebrity.I can't seem to figure it out. Chris has taken on the title of " Record Producer". Has anyone ever seen an album credit that reads Chris Ivery? Can someone lead me to a link that indicates or documents any kind of record production whatsoever? If so, was it in this decade? Has anyone done any homework on this? With the exception of an episode on MTV's Punked, has he been on television before? I think his name was in the local newspaper in the early 90's, but I don't think it made him a celebrity. Nor would I think he want's people to read about it.
I'm all for the two of them being happy together. I also applaud Miss Ellen for breaking away from the traditional ways of Hollywood Dating. It's alway's the same old story, this Actor married that Actor, this Musician married that Director, this Football Player married that Pop Star. It's good to see a relationship that simply must be based purley on emotion.Way to go Ellen, marry for love. The thing that bothers me about this now public relationship is the illusion of success that someone has tried to create for Chris Ivery. Was it the poorly done work of a bad publicist? The will of a nervous actress, concerned about her image? Or was it the desire of a man trying all he could do to maintain a relationship with a celebrity he's in love with? Maybe all of the above? But why the fassad?
No matter what the reason, it's somewhat disappointing, that someone tried to hide,in a way,the best thing about the whole relationship. She loves him, plain and simple. It does'nt matter that she's white and he's black. That he's tall and she's short. That she is at very least attractive and he is at best average, or that she is famous and he is not. There is nothing wrong with marrying outside of your tax bracket.
But as far as I can see Chris Ivery's biggest accomplishment thus far has been his engagement to Ellen Pompeo. If anyone has evidence to the contrary, please let me know.

Just IGNORE those silly people. Because all they want, is to get attention with their stupid racism messages. Wondering how old they are. Seems like they're mentally 10 yrs old. Get a life and don't screw this wonderful site. Viva Grey's Anatomy! Viva Ellen & Chris! Viva all the happy, not frustrated people!

Hey, Ian, are you happy? You sound rather miserable. Perhaps you should take a cue from Ellen. She seems to have found not only happiness but bliss. Viva Ellen! P.S. Try not to rely on God so much in your arguments. It's boring and lazy.

Good luck to Ellen and Chris. They seem really haPPy togheter... Beside this... In Grey's, there use to be several inter-ethnic couPle (Georges and Calli or Christina and Dr Burke, before Isaih Washington left. So all the racist writers on this site are really listining to Grey's Probably... Think about it...

Greyslover, you are absolutely right. Besides, Intelliwexxarthermo and his/her/its ilk are simply jealous. Ellen looks blissfully happy in this photo. Cheers to her. And cheers to love in whatever form one finds it!

If you want to talk about racism & stuff like that, join a forum!!!
Don't screw this pic! Everyone has his own opinion. So seeing Ellen, engaged with a black/white/purple/blue/..man, doesn't matter at all, she's happy so what?
Don't be so ridiculous, it's about grey's here!

P.S. It is unfortunate that the Internet, one of the greatest inventions of all time, provides cover to racist and sexist cowards. Those of you who condemn Chris and Ellen on the basis of race or "race-mixing" might have more credibility if you found a public platform from which to declaim. If your views are truly honest, you should not fear the public arena. "Forgive [the racists] father, for they know not what they do."

The racist ire that has been spewed forth on this website is the desperate attempt of an obsolescent group to have its last impotent stand. To Ian, Lacy, and their minions: America does not give a damn! Nor do Chris and Ellen. Americans will marry and "lie with" whomever they choose, and that right is protected by our wonderful Constitution. In short, you people are pathetic, and I think you know that. Perhaps instead of quoting the Bible, or relying on white supremacist sound bites, you could consult the anthropologists. They will tell you there is no such thing as "race." You are obsolescent. To diversity! To the greatest Nation on Earth! and to Love!

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

Did you say it? 'I love you. I don't ever want to live without you. You changed my life.' Did you say it? Make a plan. Set a goal. Work toward it, but every now and then, look around; Drink it in 'cause this is it. It might all be gone tomorrow."

Meredith (closing voiceover)

Burke was- He took something from me. He took little pieces of me, little pieces over time, so small I didn't even notice, you know? He wanted me to be something I wasn't, and I made myself into what he wanted. One day I was me Cristina Yang, and then suddenly I was lying for him, and jeopardizing my career, and agreeing to be married and wearing a ring, and being a bride. Until I was standing there in a wedding dress with no eyebrows, and I wasn't Cristina Yang anymore. And even then, I would've married him. I would have. I lost myself for a long time. And now that I'm finally me again, I can't. I love you. I love you more than I loved Burke. I love you. And that scares the crap out of me because when you asked me to ignore Teddy's page, you took a piece of me, and I let you. And that will never happen again.
