JJ Abrams is definitely counting on Fringe getting picked up for a second season.  The show is currently casting for the role, Dr. Smith, that is designed for season two.

According to Ausiello files, Dr. Smith will appear in just one scene in May and will be a major recurring arc season two.  Who is Dr. Smith?  He's a a scientist between the ages of fifty-five and sixty-five and is a centrmporary of Walter Bishop.

Now the obvious question is, is this Olivia's step father we're supposedly meeting by the end of season one?  Sure sounds like it to us.
