Report: Gossip Girl Spinoff Dead on Arrival?
According to reports, the much-talked about Gossip Girl spinoff we were getting ready to see previews of in Monday's episode is no longer happening.
The upcoming "Valley Girls" contains flashback scenes which were supposed to provide a tempting taste for next fall's spinoff following the wild teen years of Lily van der Woodsen (played by Brittany Snow) in Los Angeles during the 1980s.
But even though the CW executives reportedly loved its yesteryear vibe, the new show from GG executive producer Josh Schwartz went from hot, to lukewarm, to "fading but wouldn't count out," to now dead, according to insiders.
With three time slots to fill and six pilots under consideration, the Gossip Girl spinoff apparently didn't make the final cut, for one reason or another.
UPDATE: E! Online is reporting that while the spinoff is indeed battling the new Melrose Place (which looks like a virtual lock) along with The Beautiful Life and Vampire Diaries, reports that it's out of the running completely are premature.
Nevertheless, not good news for those hoping for the spinoff. Can Monday's episode resurrect its hopes? Are you disappointed? Apathetic? Tell us below.

the flash backs were horrible; terrible acting and crappy plot.

When i mentioned the books, i meant that the writer started a new circle of characters, but with the same old storyline, only replacing Blair, Serena, Dan, Chuck and Nate for new ones.

They just want to REPLACE Gossip Girl. That's the reason for that spinoff. They'll throw a pilot and if it makes the same noise as Gossip Girl did on its first season, they'll cut down GG. The producers know that Gossip Girl is fading, not only because of the lame lastest storylines but also because it wasn't based on a good hook. Even the book writer started a new circle of stories, the same old stories involving rich kids from Manhattan and a gossip website. I guess the producers didn't want to go back there as well and instead they've found a new way to replace Chuck, Blair, Serena, Dan and Nate. I'm a big fan of GG but I REALLY don't think it will have a fourth season. Hope it does, though.

I dont think it would be good thing for the show to have such a spinoff. First, producers, writers and directors would be more focused on the spinoff than on the actual show. Second, if this spinoff turned out to be a hit, i bet they would consider to cut down GG. I agree that GG has been shitty lately, but I think they should put an effort to make GG better instead of creating a new show just because the former is no longer what it used to be.

To tell you the truth, i'm glad it's cancelled. Why do you want to intertwine two gossip girl shows anyways. The original will always be better. now i don't have to worry about having to watch it (the spinoff, thank God it's over!)

no offence to the hardcore GG fans, but GG is kind of bombing
like you are so quick to trash the spinoff, but GG has been realllyyyy shit for 90% of the season. everyone is out of character or has split personality, there are absolutely ridiculous attention seeking plotlines which fail like omg dan sleeps with a teacher!! bart dies!! love child!! i think the spinoff would've been good for a fresh start...
