Chandra Wilson to Appear on Private Practice
Shonda Rhimes is anti-Grey's Anatomy spoilers, but with a bus full of reporters visiting the set Tuesday, she revealed a little scoop on the upcoming season.
Specifically, Grey's Anatomy star Chandra Wilson will cross over to the world of Private Practice in the season's third episode this fall, Rhimes said during the visit.
Miranda Bailey will travel to L.A. to visit her former colleague Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) and perform a "very interesting" medical procedure, Rhimes says.
Bailey being Bailey, she'll also not be shy about sharing her opinions about the goings-on at Oceanside Wellness, the creator and producer of both shows adds.
ABC also confirms that Party Down star Ken Marino (who was on set Tuesday) and former ER actress Kellie Martin will also guest in the first batch of episodes.
The crossover of Chandra Wilson's character to Private Practice will continue the relatively free movement of characters between Grey's Anatomy and its spinoff, which debuted in 2007.
Walsh has appeared on several episodes of Grey's Anatomy the past couple of seasons, and this past spring Patrick Dempsey's Derek Shepherd guested on Private Practice, while Taye Diggs and Audra McDonald also revealed their ties to Derek's past.
The new season of Private Practice will pick up only a few minutes after last season's finale, which ended with off-her-meds patient Katie (Amanda Foreman) injecting Violet (Amy Brenneman) with some paralyzing drugs and about to steal her baby.
The season premiere will deal with the immediate aftermath, while episode two will jump ahead a few weeks, Amy Brenneman says. We can't wait to see what transpires ...

Lexie: Mark, I'm dying. Please tell Meredith I love her and that she is a good sister.

'' The Grey’s Anatomy Emmy nominee will cross over to sister show Private Practice early into season 6 (episode 3, specifically) when Bailey visits Oceanside Wellness. I’m told the crackling chemistry between Bailey and Sam (Taye Diggs) that was on display during previous crossovers will once again get some play during this latest visit.''

i cant help feeling good about actually seeing that chemistry, even though i'd given up hope as they, well...have their own shows. so yayy!! could it be possible sam is going to be bailey's pete (as in pete was addie's comfort even though it was pretty akward in that episode of grey's anatomy in season 3 where addie goes to LA)??

I think GA S5 took place in a 3 or 4 month timeline, cos MAGIC were still 2nd year residents, and Der refered to Meredith's mom dying last year. The writers probably don't consider timelines when they're writing episodes GA writers make continuity background mistakes too. e.g. The chief and where he worked pre SGH (he didn't mentor Der at SGH)
I guess Chandra's appearance will be during the autumn sweeps, so that viewing figures can get a boost. PP needs GA to boost it ratings

I miss Kate Walsh on Grey's. And she said in an interview that Private and Grey's r doing some episodes together so I guess this is one of them? Hope Addison quits in L.A and come back to Seattle Grace instead!

Oh I don't care if I see the lady again that had the husband with the bomb. She is such a bad actress. I have noticed some of the same people have been on the show a couple of times. I think it would be awsome if Bailey and Arizona both had to go to OS cause they had a peds case and they took Callie so she could visit with Addison. I want Addie to get to spend more time Callie. They are best friends, but don't get to spend enough time together. I love the times they get to talk.

Oh, I can't wait to see Bailey on PP! She and Addison are two of my favorite characters, and I love the interaction between them.
As for the people-appearing-as-two-different-characters thing, I'm actually rather amused...I see some of the people who played patients on Grey's when they appear on House, or PP as someone completely different, and I realize that a) I'm addicted to all these shows, or I wouldn't even notice, and b) they're such versatile actors. Like the woman who played Jackson's mother on Grey's appeared as a patient/criminal on House, and the woman whose heart caught on fire during surgery on Grey's appeared as the lesbian gf of a patient on PP. It's so bizarre.

ellie, I was wondering the same thing!! Right after the crossover, when Addie meets Noah, 3 months go by. 3 months haven't gone by in Grey's, I don't think, so how is this going to work?? Plus, the article said a few more weeks would go by before Bailey comes. So maybe they're going to jump forward in Grey's?
Don't get me wrong, I'm delighted that Bailey will be going to LA. I'm just confused as to how this will work.

Is it just me, or does this really not work with the timeline of the two shows? Since the last crossover, practically Violet's whole pregnancy has happened, at least like six months, whereas on Grey's only one POSSIBLY two months have gone by. Since both seasons are picking up where they left off, either this is really inconsistent or there will be a multiple month jump within the first could epis of Grey's.

I am SO excited for this guest appearance! I love both shows, so I actually am a big fan of the cross-overs. PrPr is different from Grey's, but that doesn't mean it's bad. I love Addie, Naomi, and Sam - but the other characters are great too. Should be interesting to see Bailey in LA.
And about the guest stars on different shows - it is weird. It should be interesting to see if it continues (with numerous actors, not just one) in Season 6/Season 3 this year.

It's funny that marriedmymcdreamy mentioned guest stars appearing on both shows...because this post mentioned another one happening. Ken Marino, who the article seems to say will be guesting on PP, has been in an episode of Grey's. He was the obnoxious manager bragging about not getting shot by the gunman who later comes to Seattle Grace and shoots Burke. Also, the woman who wouldn't have her son vaccinated on PP was the wife of the guy with the bomb in his chest on Grey's. I guess the writers/casting/Shonda don't mind using the same stars on each show in different roles...because they seem to be doing it quite a bit.
