Grey's Anatomy Season Six Overview

at . Comments

Below is ABC's Season 6 overview of Grey’s Anatomy, posted on the show's official site and as a press release to sum up what the new campaign has in store for us.

It also serves as a recap of last season for those unfamiliar.

Here's the network's brief overview. Tell us what you think, and what you are most excited for as we prepare for the sixth season of Grey's just 25 days from now ...

It seems like the doctors of Seattle Grace Hospital are always fighting for something, from access to cutting-edge surgeries to relationships to patients’ lives.

And they don’t always win.

After a long, hard struggle, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) may have finally won the battle for each other’s hearts, sealing their love for one another with vows written on, of all things, a blue post-it note.

Izzie Crashes

One battle the staff of Seattle Grace may be losing is saving the lives of two of their own, Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) and George O’Malley (T.R. Knight).

And Alex Karev (Justin Chambers, pictured above), Izzie’s new husband, is left holding his breath until next season’s premiere along with the rest of us.

Meanwhile ...

  • Tough-loving Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) is fighting her own battles. She faces the very real possibility of losing her husband over her extreme dedication to her career.
  • Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) is fighting relationship fears while on-again-off-again boyfriend Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) fights the emotional scars that he brought home from Iraq.
  • Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) is fighting for her family’s respect as a new relationship with Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) blossoms into the healthy romance she needs.
  • Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) is trying to overcome his past and become a better man - with or without Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh). Perhaps Lexie is too young for him after all.
  • Richard Webber (James Pickens, Jr.), The Chief, is fighting to keep his hospital together and to find some way to forgive himself for his past mistakes.

Grey’s Anatomy can be as complicated as any neurosurgery, with episodes that will make you laugh out loud, cry your eyes out and cheer its victories - whether they involve saving a patient’s life or sealing that kiss we’ve all been hungering to witness.

I can see Mer Der falling out if Der becomes Chief. Mer isn't afraid of pushing the boundaries and Der will say 'as my wife I don't expect you to act like that, I expect you to set an example'. But if they love each other even when they hate each other, they'll leave their arguments at work. Also will Meredith be treated differentl cos she's the new chief's wife. Will everyone think she's being favoured again?

I've watched the 2nd promo, and the bit where the chief and Der talk. It sounds like Der said.'Ernst made me take the job(?)' the chief replies 'Take my job'. But I'm not sure if I heard that correctly. Thename I found it under on youtube was SerienNetwork

Krista said... 'All six couples likely won't make it to the end of the season intact, says Vernoff.' So who thinks this couple is merder? I keep this sentence in my head over and over again, and the more i think about it, the more i think is merder, because it´s the way Shonda work (look at past seasons 1,2,3,4,). Please i need to read some positive thoughts (blushing ) if you do not think that it´s merder, Which couple do you think that it´s going to break up?? I think is merder (unfortunately) or Cris/Hunt (i love both) :/

IT could be that the chief may be suspended for ignoring a DNR. I guess the Chief would have to deal with the board of the hospital, or his peers, fellow surgeons/drs who would review his actions. If he's suspended it would explain Derek's taking over the responsibility if running the hospital, and why a spoiler saying all the residents are unsure where their futures lie. Interesting possibilities. But I miss the swagger all the residents and attendings had when SGH was rated higher

Ace, What I meant was, I don't mind Derek being Chief while Webber takes he's little time out, or whatever is going to happen. I mean eventually, when Baily is an attending, even if it's another two seasons or the very last episode ever, I want to see her end up as chief. Even if it means that Derek is Chief and then in the very last episode passes it on to her. This is just one thing I really want to see happen on the show.

Sorry for my english
To Ace
You forgot about sloan's face trasplant!! I wish the worse things for alex&izzie marriage. Alex always look constipated and he's a jerk. Izzie is the worse human being in that show

I have a feeling that Izzie is really going to be the one havin a hard time with the marriage. I wonder if she'll continue to practice medicine. And i'm still kinda wondering what she was doin in Derek's trailer (spoiler pic)?! I just truly hope that Alex and Izzie somehow make it work. I have been pulling for this couple for such a freakin long time. I can't imagine one of them without the other. At least one couple should be able to have a semi normal marriage on Grey's. I truly hope it's Alex and Iz.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the Chief taking a break and to see what Derek can do, - The DNR thing, taking the medical profession seriously, the Chief should at least face suspension; he got away with the LVAD. For me that would be some retribution for Hahn. -I grew a disliking to him when he gave Torres the CR job and told Bailey she is better than “paperwork and admin, what does that mean about Torres’s surgical abilities. He never gave her the support system she deserved or at least the same respect she gave Bailey. Reiterating what Torres said about Bailey being the Chief’s favourite. A man responsible for grooming doctors should not show favouritism.
-The SGH Board is all about the bottom line, he should be in trouble for purchasing a “robot to impress a resident into choosing his side. An item that has minimal use to the hospital or the rest of the specialities. And that he turned down a sizeable donation from Torres’s dad.
-Him punishing Yang for the intern saga whilst Meredith and crew got away scot free. He should have punished all of them but chose to punish the person who saved his behind.
-The comment he made about Autism and Dixon. I guess that was the script but that took an inch off him in my books. He himself has said that the hospital has turned into a personal playground and I think he needs someone to clean his mess.

soso, I don't think the DNR would get Webber in trouble with Jennings; Jennings is more of a bureaucrat for hospital-politics. Granted, Webber couldn't keep his two chief cardio surgeons on staff (Burke and Hahn); going under the assumption that the Board didn't make a better offer to retain Dixon full time, losing her wasn't necessarily Webber's fault. And despite other negatives (i.e. the flood, the drop in hospital ranking, the lawsuit against Shepherd, etc.), Webber has produced much more favorable press for SGH:
- Burke winning the Harper Avery
- Surgical intervention by Torres using freezing to make a patient walk that wasn't an ideal candidate
- Shepherd being published for the Shepherd(-Grey) Method
- Successful Domino-surgery
- Successful surgery of a non-operable tumor (the Anatomy-Jane episode)
- World-class neurologist saved by world-class neurosurgeon
- Recruitment of Hunt and thereby reclassing SGH back to a Level I Trauma Center And I don't believe Jennings is privvy to the inner workings of SGH other than what is reported to him. Jennings will be in an episode, whether that be ratifying Webber's approval to make Bailey an attending for general surgery, or some other bureuacratic visit remains to be seen...

Oh no, that article in Us Weekly sounds like Alex and Izzie are not gonna make it as a couple to me, which would be sooooo sad :( No!!! I just want them to be happy, but could imagine there'd be problems. I mean it already came up shortly in the season5 finale with (even though in frustration) Alex basically saying he only married Izzie because they thought she would die. Plus, I agree what was said above, Izzie will probably be like "Why did George have to die and not me". Sad... I wish they could just be happily living together as a married couple.

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

There's a reason I said I'd be happy alone. It wasn't 'cause I thought I'd be happy alone. It was because I thought if I loved someone and then it fell apart, I might not make it. It's easier to be alone, because what if you learn that you need love and you don't have it? What if you like it and lean on it? What if you shape your life around it and then it falls apart? Can you even survive that kind of pain? Losing love is like organ damage. It's like dying. The only difference is death ends. This? It could go on forever.

Did you say it? 'I love you. I don't ever want to live without you. You changed my life.' Did you say it? Make a plan. Set a goal. Work toward it, but every now and then, look around; Drink it in 'cause this is it. It might all be gone tomorrow."
