GA could never be ER. There styles are completely different! ER was a purely medical procedural show with some back stories on the doctors lives. It definitely was not the basis of the entire series like it is on GA. That's the main reason why it was able to stay on for 15 years, because it wasn't all about the main characters so they could have people come and go without it really affecting the quality of the show. GA built the show on the 5 interns and their lives. I mean the show is called "GREYS" anatomy! Even the title is about one of the main characters! And now Meredith isn't going to be on for god knows how many episodes. I get she's got to have her maternity leave but now it looks like no Izzie either.
My opinion as a long time fan of the show is that Grey's Anatomy is about the characters and the writers should tell their stories and not try to make the show into something its not. the fans love the show the way it is and its ridiculous to change everything we all love abou

I've been dreaming of the first episode starting with the traffic accident scene where George leaves the military office, walks on the pavement for a while, waits at the pedestrian cross and then saves the young girl and gets hit by the vehicle, all I need is that, a kind of a rewind or flashback :)
Bailey and her husband's relationship also takes my interest. I really miss those episodes that we could see her kitchen. I love Calli, I hope she takes a slide in the forthcoming episode. Also, It's high time a doctor who is as arrogant as Burke started working in SGH.
S5 lacked a continuous tragedy such as ferry crash or code black, I hope this time they will do that this time

I honestly think Izzie will be back in SGH or whatever the new name be, but in the Clinic. I assume they'll take her out of the surgical program but not the hospital? I wonder how the Chief (or Derek for that matter) will resolve this.
As an ER fan, I understand the issue but I have to say that both shows, while being medical dramas, have a huge difference on the focus of the show.
ER was more about the medical cases and the daily basis that the ER had. It had a certain amount of attention to their characters. If you had watched 8 years, you knew Mark Greene the same way we know Meredith Grey in the five years of GA.
GA lays a good portion of its time to the characters and having extreme medical cases. To me it seems why, GA wouldn't function as ER because it's so dedicated to their characters that a change of them would change everything.
GA is titled after a main character. This should be a wake up call that unless EP is going to do all 15 seasons, it wouldn't function.

....i think its stupid they're trying to make this the new ER. We fell in love with Grey's Anatomy because of Meredith GREY, Izzie, George, Alex, Cristina, and the other originals, and i would rather see it end with them than having these idiots turn Grey's into something this not.
And fire Izzie??WTF..not only is she my favorite but the girl just almost died..idk maybe they'll just make her take time off to deal with her illness and George's death..but if they fire her that's ridiculous

If GA lasts for 15 seasons it won't be the same cast. ER invited the original cast members to make a farewell appearance before it finished. That would be the only way I'd still envisage watching GA once MerDer leave. I hope MerDer leave together.

I understand perfectly well that Katherine is going to shoot a movie, but as they stated they said Izzie is "Fired" If someone is fired they can't come back...so? I'm really gettin nervous here! Izzie is and always will be my fav! I...well 5 eppys w/o iz is like 5 days w/o ranch at my house...it just dun go!! Ranch is a must have...izzie is a must have!! So let me get this straight they plan on bringing in new ppl? like ER?? I dun like ER...no offence to ER fans but its not me...If they do what they do in ER it wouldnt be the Greys anatomy that I fell in love with back in season one...Why take away the good? I cant handle it if they change it all I understand there working around stuff but if they actors need a break why cant they break Greys? Idk if they can im not a movie producer but? really I love Greys if they change it all then...I can't say if ill like the "new" its just not the same...:/ I'm sorry I just hope they work it out and get it back to "Normal" in the end and it passes

Well with Izie gone an Merdith kind of gone its going to be BORING especially with Izie charater gone she made the show. Ireally do not believe I will be watching anymore. Sorry but when the main charters gone sho should end.Do not care for to get into watching new charters PLEASE bring bach Izzie. Thank you.

The Chief's unknown child who may turn up this season would technically be a Grey if his mother was Ellis. So that could be the Grey link for up to 15 seasons I guess. I don't think Lexie has been taken to heart by all GA fans. I don't think Lexie could be the Grey in GA.

What's the betting that some of the new actors who will appear as guest stars on a 'multi episode arc' won' end up as series regulars. They started off Callie, Mark, Erica(briefly, Lexie, Owen and now Arizona that way.

I think ABC have told SR they want to extend GA beyond the usual 7 seasons. It is very unlikely that the 7 original cast members would want to commit themselves to an open ended contract, they'll be looking for new challenges. So I feel we fans are being given new characters to bond with so we will stay interested and watching GA.
I would love to think that we'll be able to see Meredith, Cristina and Alex finish their residency; but it's taken til the 6th season to get them to start their 3rd year residency. Too slow!
I'm not convinced that KH will be arond very much. I don't think we'll see Iz become a surgeon if she's having some time out of the residency programme. I gues they get her back as a resident due to compassionate reasons. But iz has had all that brain surgery, so she'll need supervision surely to check she's up to the job, won't she

I love Grey's, mainly because of the main characters- Mer/Der. I hope once Ellen has a baby that it will be back to normal and she will be the heart of the show again. Everyone is right, the show's core is about the original interns

i agree with TDS i'd like to actually see more of the guy without the girl and this will give us an oppurtunity and it's not like they all leaving 2/5 are taking temporary breaks and only 1/5 is gone permantly you all seem to forget it not going to be whole season without them except for george and i love george ireally do but i like the other characters as well and we've said before we wernt going to like it and what do you know you now like them i.e Lexie

i can just tell this show is going down the drain. As much as I love it, I gonna admit i'll stop watching if they get rid of the original interns/attendings. I mean the only reason I watch this show is because I'm so in love with the original characters and the more they get rid of them, the more the get rid of me

god i'm so sad... I certainly don't wish to watch a new story line on new characters! We are all watching this show because we love the original casts. First Burke is gone, then George, then S6 will have less screen time on Mer and Izzie, and Owen & Cris are going SLOW? Oh please we do not need new characters to cover up why cant she just focus on the remaining characters? I certainly dont wish to watch drama between the new residents... Ok so pls remind me why I should look forward to a new season, or should i say a new series?

I totally agree that characters want to do some movies so tehy need some time.. But I am really upset about the fact that after a whole season of drama... they finally fire izzie!! What´s going on with her love story with alex? because producers said that the couples are not going to make it through season 6 so... if she gets fired and a new hot resident is coming and her relationship with her hubby is not on the best moment... so... i really don´t know, and i would be very pissed if the izzie-alex relationship goes: anywhere.. really!! "Screw the DNR".. just to fire her????? hello???

Five episodes without Izzie? That is gonna be so hard! I mean she should still live with Alex, so are they just not gonna show his private life at all? Or is she leaving town? WTH?! I also find it hard to imagine they "fire" her. They probably tell her to take it slow during the whole cancer recovery. I mean they didn't fire her after she cut Denny's LVAD wire, so what worse could she do? Still, it sounds too much like any other medical show to me, what with this merger and everything. It's still gonna be my favorite show, it will just be less... Grey's

i dunno, but you have to realize that they're actors with lives outside of our tv screen. (although if they could just be there 24/7 that would be awesome.) still, they need personal time just like any other working people. we can't just b*tch about meredith not being there because she's pregnant. things happen, and we have to try to understand, especially since we don't know all the facts.
but that being said, i love grey's, both for the original cast and some of the new additions along the way, like Addison, Mark, Callie, Owen, and Arizona. still, that doesn't mean i want to have to get to like 3 new characters! there's only one member of the cast who's permanently gone, so why do we need 3 unknown characters? it just seems a little ridiculous to me, because we could use their screen time to get to know our real cast better. besides, if they want us to watch for fifteen years, shouldn't we get to know the cast better before bringing all these new people in?
