Katherine Heigl on Grey's Anatomy: I Am Done

at . Comments

Erasing the one percent of doubt that may have lingered regarding the ongoing saga, Katherine Heigl has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that she is leaving Grey’s Anatomy.

“I am done,” the Emmy winner said. “We just finalized our agreement. Everyone had been working really hard to find an amicable and gracious way of letting go and moving on."

"It’s sad but it’s what I wanted.”

Well, the 31-year-old is nothing if not candid. She reveals that it was family issues, not her burgeoning film career, that prompted her to approach series creator Shonda Rhimes.

SO SORRY: Is Katherine Heigl really?

“I started a family and it changed everything,” says Heigl, who took a three-month leave from Grey’s this season to bond with her newly-adopted daughter, Naleigh, and is now free of her contract 18 months early. “It changed my desire to work full-time.”

Although she was scheduled to appear in this season’s final five episodes, that is no longer happening. As a result, the January 21 episode was her final one as Dr. Izzie Stevens.

“I know I’m disappointing the fans,” she says. “I just had to make a choice. I hope I made the right one.” Was it? You tell us by leaving comments and voting in our poll below:

Well, she's making an excuse, I think. Her daughter is part of her choice. But she wants to make a career on the big screen. This is the real reason, right ? Which, in my opinion will not easily work out, considering what kind of movies she's done so far. To me, Katherine Heigl is never as good on screen as she is in Grey's anatomy.

I agree with the idea that this confession would be much easier to swallow if this latest incident was not preceded by earlier KH drama. I don't want to say she's using her daughter as an excuse, but it's really convenient timing...

I understand her reasons to leave and all, but I just wish Izzie had a proper sendoff. =/ Maybe she will guest star in some future episodes though. That would be interesting to watch.

The only problem with that confession is that she wanted to leave GA years ago, not just recently, so I don't think she should use her daughter as an excuse for that. It's a natural thing that she wants to spent more time with Naleigh, but I don't see how she could if she's going to make like 5 movies in 2010. She can take her daughter to the shootings and the promotions around the world or she can leave her home, but she's not going to spent too much time with her either way, so it doesn't seem like the reason why she's living GA.

she looks like Britney Spears in the cover. LOL at the "Tiger Woods checks into image rehab". Fitting for the cover as they seemingly want the same thing for bearing their souls to EW

Personally, I'm "over" KH. She has a family, I get that. I just wish the writers would have done something more creative for a send off instead of her just leaving. The last episode didn't do the character justice.

I actually don't think she's SO SORRY, because if she really cared, she'd do one more send-off episode. I never bash the actors on grey's, or any TV show/movie for that matter, because we really can't possibly know all the background details in their lives (which is none of our business) or know them in person....BUT.
KH was complaining a lot to the public about stuff she shouldn't have, she had given a pretty fair schedule this year with the movie-breaks and maternity leave and all, and YET she still can't manage to do one more episode that she was by the way bound by a contract to do so.
I think Shonda and the producers went way too soft on this one. It is one thing to let her out of the contract, things happen, I get it, but AT LEAST she should have been bound to make one last appearance for the show's and her character's sake. And I wouldn't care HOW KH would feel during that shooting, it's WORK, it's commitment, but most of all it's PROFESSIONALISM.
And sadly KH apparently lacks the last two qualities, and sadly for us, because Izzi fan or no Izzie fan, this is a story-line that is left hanging in the air.
I really hopr Shonda and the writers will come up with something satisfactory.

I understand about her choice, being a new mum and all but how about us Izzie fans? We still want to know about Izzie's life before working her butt off from studying in state school while juggling with part-time work as waitress and modelling to being an intent in Seattle Grace Hospital. I still wants to know if she ever knew who's her father is/was because it was never mentioned for 6 seasons. I still wants know if Izzie will ever see Hannah again. I still wants to know if she ever practice medicine again after being fired!! Was her application to be accepted at Tacoma successful? Come on she needs a proper send-off not like in 6.12 where her husband Alex send her off and never want to see her again. Come on Katie, come on Shonda , for this fan let it be a proper send-off.

I get that she wants more time with her family, of course she does but she should have at least done one more episode to tie up the loose ends, it's a little ridiculous because the way she left in her last episode was not a proper send off! Everythings still a little loose.

I knew her daughter was the reason why KH didn't want to do Grey's anymore. She saw that her daughter was going to suffered if she stay at Grey's and doing movies at the same time. She choose Movie and her daughter.

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

Did you say it? 'I love you. I don't ever want to live without you. You changed my life.' Did you say it? Make a plan. Set a goal. Work toward it, but every now and then, look around; Drink it in 'cause this is it. It might all be gone tomorrow."

Meredith (closing voiceover)

There's a reason I said I'd be happy alone. It wasn't 'cause I thought I'd be happy alone. It was because I thought if I loved someone and then it fell apart, I might not make it. It's easier to be alone, because what if you learn that you need love and you don't have it? What if you like it and lean on it? What if you shape your life around it and then it falls apart? Can you even survive that kind of pain? Losing love is like organ damage. It's like dying. The only difference is death ends. This? It could go on forever.
