Will Grey's Anatomy Address Izzie's Disappearance?

Will Grey’s Anatomy address, you know, Izzie’s whereabouts at all?

Or are they just going to pretend the character portrayed by Katherine Heigl never existed now that the actress simply isn't returning from maternity leave?

They’re definitely not going to pretend she never existed, according to Entertainment Weekly. In fact, the Izzie issue will be addressed during May sweeps.

For her part, Heigl actually thinks her January 21 farewell - while not originally intended to be her last episode - oddly works as a bookend to Izzie’s story.

“Even though there’s a part of me that would like to go back and do the quick Izzie farewell,” she says, “I also think that my last scene, where Meredith says to Izzie, ‘Don’t go, we’re your family,’ and Izzie’s response was, ‘No you’re not, you’re just a bunch of people I worked with, and I can find that anywhere,’ was kind of tragic and appropriate all at the same time."

"When I was playing the scene I was really trying to convey that, for Izzie, that was a lie that she had to tell herself to have the courage to move on.”

What do you think of Katherine's departure?

too be honest, i think that they could have had a good ending for izzie but heigl didn't turn up to film her final scenes. she was a main part of the cast but the only other way to let izzie go would be to kill her character and they can't really kill two of five interns in 2 seasons. the only way to give her character a good send off now would be to end her character completely i.e alex recieve a call/letter that izzie has died. or too leave it for a few seasons and have her daughter come back into the show looking for her, and learn what happened from meredith and alex. that would be quite good to see what happened. i hope she doesn't come back though, i don't like the way she keeps leaving and coming back.

Well call me lame but why can't they get someone else to play Izzie, I mean she's a character in the show. I know heigel embodied that role but if they could find the right person they might be able to pull it off. Anyways I'm just saying that just cause heigl has to go, doesn't mean Izzie does. It was the character I got, not the actress.....

It's such a bummer they made such an end for Izzie. Oh, wait, it's actually not even a real end. It doesn't matter who started bitching about the other first...Shonda or Katherine Heigl. As professionals, they both made stupid mistakes...although at least Katherine Heigl can pretend to learn from those mistakes and keep her real opinions herself instead of dishing about people in the media. Shonda's not giving Izzie a real end is just the worst in the situation...because it's not just about the two of them, it's about the viewers. They'd deserved an actual end. But I guess it's whatever now.

"When I was playing the scene I was really trying to convey that, for Izzie, that was a lie that she had to tell herself to have the courage to move on. So this is saying that Izzie basically lied to herself so she could leave. Understandable seeing as how the man she loves (He loves her back, of course) tells her he loves her but she needs to leave. It's something that could break any persons heart and change their decision of staying to leaving... hmm maybe she'll come back, not in the near future i'm sure, but maybe one day? A girl, being me, can hope. Plus she still has those fertilized eggs that won't last forever and are her only chances of having children...

Izzie has not been my favorite character, but she was an integral part as of the original cast. I think what she said to Meredith at her last appearance was an emotional reaction of what she experienced with her cancer, marriage to Alex, and in particular, George's death. It is understandable. I suggest that a letter is sent to Meredith or Alex and incorporated into one of the episodes in which Izzie goes to Iraq or Afghanistan to fulfill George's dream of serving in a MASH unit(it would be just like Izzie to be so impulsive). Then, the door can be closed on her character by having her die in the combat zone, or if there is a chance that Shonda wants to resurrect the character, she can come back from her tour of duty all healed and grown up. I personally vote for the first scenario. I* have not missed Izzie this season at all. I thought that I would really miss George's character and Iam surprise that I have not. I have been watching the episodes from previous seasons again and realized how immature Izzie and George were - I could see those characters were representative of their intern days and they were no longer needed since the other three chracters were representatives of the maturing residents. I am really enjoying the more mature storylines and characters on Grey's now.

Izzie will always have a place in GA (and my heart!) and of course they can't pretend she didn't exist like I said before she was an integral part of the fab 5 and you can't just write her off like that. The Jan 21 episode brought back Izzie for who she was but in the end she was left heartbroken(which to me is the true reason for those last words to Mer)I honestly don't think that Izzie meant what she said about Seattle Grace being just a place she worked and the reason KH was trying to portray makes sense. I'm glad she will be mentioned in May sweeps (hopefully not in too much of a bad way) but after that I want her character story to end it's just too much for me.

I truly believe that isn't the end for Izzie.. She is my fav no matter what

That's enough ...uffa with Heigl...she leaves forever from GA ,with good peace of all.Justin must something of nice on her ,she did not see the time of going.I prefer to speak of some other rather this ungrateful one.To me she doesn't miss

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

Did you say it? 'I love you. I don't ever want to live without you. You changed my life.' Did you say it? Make a plan. Set a goal. Work toward it, but every now and then, look around; Drink it in 'cause this is it. It might all be gone tomorrow."

Meredith (closing voiceover)

Burke was- He took something from me. He took little pieces of me, little pieces over time, so small I didn't even notice, you know? He wanted me to be something I wasn't, and I made myself into what he wanted. One day I was me Cristina Yang, and then suddenly I was lying for him, and jeopardizing my career, and agreeing to be married and wearing a ring, and being a bride. Until I was standing there in a wedding dress with no eyebrows, and I wasn't Cristina Yang anymore. And even then, I would've married him. I would have. I lost myself for a long time. And now that I'm finally me again, I can't. I love you. I love you more than I loved Burke. I love you. And that scares the crap out of me because when you asked me to ignore Teddy's page, you took a piece of me, and I let you. And that will never happen again.
