Grey's Anatomy Review: "Shiny Happy People"

at . Comments

Next week marks the season finale of our beloved Grey's Anatomy. For whatever reason this reminds us of a cheesy one liner - we hate to see you leave, but we love to watch you go!

We wouldn't go as far as saying we felt that this week's episode, "Shiny Happy People" was a filler, but it really did put the 60 minute show to good use to tie up some loose ends.

One of our favorite loose ends happened to be Miranda and Ben's blossoming relationship. When Ben interrupted Bailey and said:

Ben: Now woman, I am naked and I look good. Are you going to sit there and lecture me or are you going to let me take you into my bedroom and have my way with you. | permalink

We got to admit he had our hearts pounding!

Ben definitely is the type of man Miranda needs in her life. He is able to stand up to her and will not take any of her nonsense lying down quietly. He made it crystal clear to her and the rest of us that he is not looking to play games and is in it for the long hull. We really heart him and the beginning of what looks like the relationship we always wanted for Miranda.

A Bailey Smile

Meredith was the one person in the most difficult place last night because she finally had to admit to herself and Cristina that it just isn't the two of them anymore.

She is married to Derek and her loyalties have to lye with him. Thankfully, Meredith did get herself involved a bit when she gave Owen a piece of her mind. We were worried that Cristina wouldn't find out the truth - and we were shocked that Teddy heard the whole conversation!

What do you think Owen means when he said he isn't sure about his feelings for Teddy? We feel like something will definitely happen in the season finale that will make his choice clear on who he cares about most.

Oh Lexie! What to do! What to do! When Mark gave his speech to Lexie it only left us more confused!

We really do like Alex and Lexie together, but Mark is in LOVE with Lexie and pretty much proposed to her in a way. It definitely was no post-it, but it was something!

We wonder if Shonda purposely had Alex seem more confused this week. Why else would Alex be calling himself a duck one week, but kissing Lexie so passionately the week before?

Who do you want Lexie to end up with? Do you think Mark's feelings for Lexie are as genuine as they seem or do you think it is more about wanting what you can't have?

Alex and His New Patient

We enjoyed Demi Lovato's character and her storyline because it involved Alex asking Lexie - the computer brain - for help. It's always nice to have a case that seems unsolvable and then our beloved doctors come to save the day!

The passionate kiss that Callie and Arizona shared in the elevator only means one thing: Whatever feelings they have for each other are still burning strong!

We still don't see how they are going to overcome their problem. We feel neither one should have to budge from their ground. We can't wait to see where their story goes!

We all know what is looming next week and for some reason we still feel creepy April will be involved. It is too obvious for Shonda to have Mr. Clark be the killer. He may have the biggest reason to want to kill Derek, but seeing that Meredith is pregnant (yeah, we called it!) could throw April off the deep end...just saying!

Until the much anticipated two-hour long season finale next week we leave you with a few of our favorite Grey's Anatomy quotes after the jump!

Mark: Lex - I'm still in love with you. I tried not be, but it didn't work. And Sloane's gone, there is no baby, and I don't want to sleep around. I want another chance. I'm in love with you.
Lexie: Karev, he's...Mark, I have a boyfriend.
Mark: I know. All I'm saying is that you could have a husband. | permalink
Meredith: Ask most people what they want out of life and the answer is simple - to be happy. Maybe it's this expectation though of wanting to be happy that just keeps us from ever getting there. Maybe the more we try to will ourselves to state's of bliss, the more confused we get - to the point where we don't recognize ourselves. Instead we just keep smiling - trying to be the happy people we wish we were. Until it eventually hits us, it's been there all along. Not in our dreams or our hopes but in the known, the comfortable, the familiar. | permalink
Callie: You don't want fifty years to go by and realize that you let the love of your life get away. So go - try! | permalink
Meredith: You have to understand that it's been just you and me for a long time, now its me and Derek. And it's you and me. I told you what I said this morning because it's you and me, but I can't tell you anymore because it's me and Derek.
Cristina: Fine I get it, but I need you to understand that I need there to be a me and Owen. | permalink
Alex: It's like the computer froze! | permalink
Lexie: The point is - I need to know what we are. What this is.
Alex: We're a thing, yeah we're together. We're a thing. Whatever. | permalink
Richard: A happy patient is a healthy patient Yang. | permalink
Meredith: It's a common belief that positive thinking leads to a happier healthier life. As children we are told to smile, be cheerful, and put on a happy face. As adults we are told to look on the bright side, to make lemonade, and see glasses as half full. Sometimes reality can get in the way of our ability to act the happy part though. Youre hope can fail, boyfriends can cheat, friends can disappoint. It's in these moments, when you just want to get real, drop the act, and be your true scared unhappy self. | permalink
Owen: Lets move in together. Good, you cant answer. That's good I don't want you to, I ran it past my shrink and she thinks it's a good idea. So think about it. Me, you, our own place.
Cristina: Yes.
Owen: What! Yes?
Cristina: Yes, but I need to warn you that this is my fourth martini and my judgment is severely impaired. Also, I'm a real easy lay right now. | permalink
Meredith: At my parties we drink beer and dance on tables.
Derek: Are you insulting my party?
Meredith: It is getting kinda lame out there.
Derek: Duty calls. | permalink

Lexie still loves Mark.We know this because of the comments she made about Ried. And Mark clearly loves Lexie so they have to get back together. That scene when he told her he loved her and essentially proposed in a way was amazing!! Can't wait for the finale!!!!!

i think that marks feelings for lexie are genuine. is obvious that he never got over her, and its a HUGE step for him - the "manwhore" - to admitt this. so i think for the first time, he really loves a woman.
and its clear that lexie has still feelings for him. in my opinion she acts like izzie when she finds out that alex was with ava.
so i hope that lexie gets back to mark, because she clearly does not love alex. she likes him because he's there and he gives her what she needs.
its how things get hurt. you turn to someone who's there. alex was there because he was hurt too. but i dont like how so many people blame izzie for ALL of this. it was both of their fault that this relationship failed. it was never meant to fail. but KH left and the writers made her act like a stupid child in the 6th season. and alex was the one who made the ultimate step to break up their relationship. they could have fight to survive (if KH were to stay). and i dont think that alex would be really hurt if lexie left him. because he doesnt care enough about her in that way. maybe he would be sad short time, but just because he can finally realise that he is alone and that he SHOULD be alone for a while to figure out his own issues. he NEEDS this to develop his character. he said hes a duck. hes trying to fit in. but thats not the point of love. you should be YOURSELF. with izzie, he was himself. he opened up. now hes just trying to "be". and i dont see that situation going on any longer...

I think the shooter is Shadow Shephard ( DR. Nelson.) Watch episode 18.

loved the episode!!
mer is growin which she should at this point of time...
mark does not deserve lexie but that gal doesnt kno that so she myt go bak 2 him..
i hate owen 4m the start so i hope he dies in the finale and christina can get a frsh start.
but the best part of the episode was alex wit demi lovato!!

i love MILLION TIMES this episode. it has been a long time since greys had this kind of episode wherein the characters SHINE. i love the quotes as well, seriously. i agree with Insensitive Rocked, stating "The last 8 minutes were phenomenal!!" THIS IS SOOOOO TRUE. i love mark and lexie. i dunno. the genuineness of Mark's feelings towards Lexie. very undeniably romantic. if i were her, id chose someone who LOVES me dearly over (like what Alex said) a duck. coz i know Lexie still loves Mark.. evidence: she kept on reiterating what happened between mark and reed. looking forward for the next episode. gosh im hoping its a positive thing for mark and lexie.

Is it just me or does Mark practically do everything that Callie tells him to? For example, Callie suggested to Mark that he should hook up with Teddy and he does just that. Now she sends him back to Lexie (after bedding with Reed that is). I think he's a little confused on what he wants and he probably isn't genuine about wanting to be Lexie's husband. If I were Lexie, I would probably stick with Alex and start fresh with him. Yes, he has just gotten a divorce and is probably still coping with it but at least it's something they're both dealing with. I would feel less security with Mark because he jumps all over the place. Mark may claim he's in love with Lexie but words aren't enough :P I happen to really like Alex this season. He's so broken and torn, his character is just really complicated. He's a little rough and doesn't try to please everyone, even the ones that care about him. But underneath all that, he has a vulnerable side. I might get bitched at for this but I'm actually not a big fan of Meredith this season. Her character is becoming close to a Mary-Sue, sticking herself into A LOT of people's business. I actually liked her better when she was like Alex, a little broken and torn (you know, her "dark and twisty" days). Now, I'm not saying she doesn't deserve to be happy - I just wished the writers wouldn't make her the problem-solver and everyone's rant outlet. Just my opinion.

As for the rest of the finale, I cannot wait to see it. CANNOT. Crap. I wonder when they'll air it in the Philippines. It looks so good. I really hope Derek doesn't get shot, but anyways, PD's gonna be back for the rest of the mind.

Meredith is soooo pregnant. I knew this would happen ever since that pregnancy blind item appeared. My cheek bones are hurting now....

mark and lexie again?! yuck! yuck! DOUBLE YUCK!!! It's creepy and mark deserves a better love team...somebody bring back addison!...ok,i'm glad i got that off my chest...and the thing with cristina and owen really made me sad.i admit owen and teddy has better chemistry but i hope cristina doesn't end up as the forever third wheel with merder....can't they bring back burk? hate sad endings....

@ALC Mark is also an ENT specialist .Its been mentioned several times over the years
