Gossip Girl Spoilers: Heavily Flirting With Dair

at . Comments

“The Dan and Blair connection is something that’s been there from the earliest episodes. Their relationship to Serena, as well as the degree to which they’re polar opposites and represent everything that the other hates, makes their dynamic really charged."

- Stephanie Savage on Dan and Blair

Will they or won't they? That's the burning question Gossip Girl fans have asked - and debated - since the bond between Dan and Blair strengthened in "The Townie."

When the show returns January 24, will they become more than friends?

"They are the most book-smart characters. They share a lot of the same interests. And as much as they might want to hate each other, there are a lot of reasons for them to like each other. It’s a really fun dynamic to write,” says executive producer Savage.

A large segment of the show’s viewership (more than half, according to our survey below) would prefer for Dan and Blair remain at odds, which is not lost on Stephanie.

“Fans are struggling with exactly the same issues they’ll see Dan and Blair struggling with,” she says. “There’s a lot of ambivalence and even revulsion on their part.”

Embarking on such a polarizing storyline is “definitely nerve-racking,”
Savage says.

"But it’s also exciting, and that’s kind of the tightrope of working on a show like Gossip Girl where fans are so passionate. On the one hand, you want to keep people happy all the time, but if you don’t try new things, people will get bored.”

Going forward, that shouldn't be a problem.

In addition to the Dan/Blair arc (which involves the pair working together at a fashion magazine), Serena and Ben will attempt to make a go of a romance. Amazing.

Meanwhile, Lily will begin the long journey back from the doghouse she has found herself in (with a little help from her returning ex-husband, Billy Baldwin), Nate will adjust to having his divorced former jailbird father as his quasi-roommate.

Two new characters - the Donald and Ivanka Trump-esque father/daughter team of Russell and Raina Thorpe - will shake up Chuck’s personal and professional worlds.

As for the always-controversial Little J?

Taylor Momsen’s role on the show is “something we’re figuring out as we go along,” says Savage. “I liked how in the first half of the season people didn’t know when she was coming back. I think that helps the storytelling.”

So, ambiguous as always. Works for us.

I personally adore Chair together, but I must say I am pretty excited to see what will happened with Dair!

Seriously, these writers should stop shuffling partners already! Bring BLAIR and NATE back together, just how it's supposed to be.

So.. this means that serena will be with ben or..?

I think it's a great idea to keep the flirtation going for an extended period of time... There's no mystery in Chair or Derena, we know how they feel... having a guessing game again is healthy for the show - especially if it's going to be renewed for 2012. Chuck and Blair can't be a couple again until the last season, because they're boring together. Anyway Dan's been dating someone since day one, and Blair's heart belongs to Chuck, but she's dated a stoner (Nate) and a bon vivant, so she is due a chance to hang with a man who's got as much going on between his ears (if not more) than between his legs! Bring on the - platonic - tension.

Yes,I see your point about if this was real life, Dair would work, but as you said, it's GG.
What annoys me and makes me sure it won't last is because, if Dair does last, then why was there a huge and massive build up of Chuck and Blair from Season 1-4? Ultimatley, Dair might be something, but if Dair was there from the beginning and they actually acknowledged and wrote around their supposed connection then - and not just like what Stephanie Savage said, "It was there from the beginning" - then I wouldn't be so annoyed or angry, because we'd have seen it coming. However, Blair and Chuck completely to presidence over all other couples during all three and a half seasons. So that's why I'm thinking it won't last. It's like Dan and Serena, there was so much of season 1 focusing on them, that well, in the end they'll probs get back together. I'm still a Chuck and Blair fan all the way, but you're right in saying that Chuck does have to prove himself more. I think that if Dair go out, Chuck will definitely have something to say. Dair might even bring Chair back together...Just saying?

I'd take anyone for Blair except Chuck at this point. Chuck needs to work on resolving his issues first, which probably is the worst in GG. Until then, lets see if he does treat Blair in a right way. Tash, If this were anywhere is real life, I'd say Blair and Dan are fate (evidence are everywhere and in my case, my parents). But since this is GG world, we'll have to see how ratings go, and its a 50/50 thing now. Your confidence on 'It won't last' has a 50 percent chance and no, we don't know what is to come. From what I know, my friends who ditched GG in season 2 came back because of Dan and Blair in The Townie. So we might not know whether it will last or it won't. I pray Blair will last with someone who treats her right, either new developed Chuck, new character or Dan Humphrey.

I haven't watched One Tree Hill since Lucas n Peyton left....If they put Blair w/Dan, I am swearing off Gossip Girl til they break up. Wasn't it bad enough they made Chuck sleep w/Jenny n Vanessa...Blair n Dan....boring n gross....ugh!!!!

Thankyou Rank!!!
People are so quick to judge Chuck!!! Granted he did a lot to be judged for. But still. Dan's not perfect either, and to me he's too insecure. Watch, Dan might end up with Blair for a few episodes, but he's still pining for Serena, that's a huge fault to his!!! He can't get over her, and seems to be using everyone along the way to think he can!!! Also, he and Serena didn't last cause he couldn't handle her world, WHAT THE HELL, makes people think he's gonna handle Blair? She's the epitome of a Rich girl with drama. Eventaully they'll break up. Yes, Lil, I can see what you're talking about. But Dair won't last based on that. Yes they're two good people who find something in the other, but they're not suited. Basically Season 1 was a waste with the whole Dan and Serena thing if this is how it might pan out. But as I said. IT WON"T LAST.

WORD GIRL. Bring on the Dair...and I think we do understand Chuck B&C, he's a guy who doesn't care about Blair and hurts her over and over. No one is saying he can't go make out with his new girlfriend. He sold Blair, he acts like he hates her, and every new woman he falls all over yet treats Blair like crap. If you love him so much, why not want him with one of the women he obviously prefers? Having Blair constantly miserable over him isn't doing his character any favors, and a lot of us would rather anything that watch any more of it.

[to Jenny] That's the thing. You need to be cool to be queen. Anne Boleyn thought only with her heart and she got her head chopped off. So her daughter Elizabeth made a vow never to marry a man. She married a country. Forget boys. Keep your eye on the prize, Jenny Humphrey. You can't make people love you, but you can make them fear you. For what it's worth, you're my Queen. I choose you.
