NBC Hopes for New Musical Smash

by at .

If Wonder Woman can't save NBC, the network is hoping a new rival for Glee can do the job.

Sources confirm that NBC has ordered a fall pilot for Smash, a musical series that centers on an eclectic group of people that band together to perform in a Broadway musical. Michael Mayer (American Idiot) is in negotiation to direct, while Steven Spielberg and his DreamWorks TV team will executive produce.

Grammy-winning and Tony-winning songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman will write original songs for the show. Sounds like New Directions might need to step things up, huh?

As a fellow drama person, I get excited to see any show that has singing and dancing in it. I think the storyline will be off enough from Glee to not seem like a follower. I also know a great actor who was just signed on to the pilot for this show and from personal knowledge knows that what he brings to the plate will be amazing. I spent many years in middle school/high school plus drama school with him and know if its something he is interested in it will be great. I look forward to watching this and just hope and doesn't air during my regular fave shows lol!!!

WOW . . . Just wow . Do we really need another one of these shows ? Don't get me wrong because I LOVE Glee , Gleek all day everyday but copy cat shows really aren't as awesome as the originals . Sure, we like to watch them and sometimes we do compare , but no matter what this new show will bring Glee will always be the best . :)
