ABC Green Lights Reboot of Charlie's Angels

To quote Seth Myers on Saturday Night Live: Really?!?

Variety reports that ABC has green-lighted an updated version of Charlie’s Angels, the 1970s series that spawned a pair of movie hits.

Josh Friedman, who adapted the Terminator franchise for the Fox drama Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, will write and executive produce the new show; while Drew Barrymore is also on board as a producer.

Charlie

Rebooting a classic series has worked well for 90210. Not so much for Melrose Place.

Then again, we could get behind a remade Charlie's Angels that stars Megan Fox, Carrie Underwood and Julianne Hough!

CBS Orders More Episodes of Hit Shows, Numbers the Days of Numb3rs

It lasted quite a long time for a show with a ridiculously-spelled name, but Numb3rs is nearing cancellation.

CBS has cut the episode order for this drama from 22 to 16 this season, a clear sign it won't be around in the fall of 2010.

Numb3rs

That's bad news for fans of the show, but they can take comfort if they watch other hit CBS programs.

The network has increased the episode orders of How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, CSI: Miami, and Two and a Half Men from 22 to 24; it's also requested an additional episode of the following shows:

  • Criminal Minds
  • CSI: NY
  • The Big Bang Theory
  • The Good Wife
  • CSI
  • The Mentalist

Matt LeBlanc to Star in Episodes

Matt LeBlanc has landed a new starring role... as Matt LeBlanc!

The former Friends star will appear as himself in Episodes, a satirical Showtime series that focuses on a British couple whose hit show in its native land is transformed into a less-funny, dumbed-down sitcom in America.

(Just imagine The Office, if the U.S. version sucked big time.)

Matt LeBlanc

LeBlanc will appear as Matt LeBlanc, the chosen star of the American remake of the British show. Following along so far? He'll re-team with Friends creator David Crane on the project.

"I love it," the actor said. "And I am so glad I got the part - seeing someone else play Matt LeBlanc would have been devastating."

The six-episode series will air this winter.

Let's Make a Deal: Returning to the Air

Sorry, Guiding Light fans.

But the beloved daytime drama won't be returning to CBS this fall.

Despite a write-in campaign by viewers, the soap opera will bid farewell in September. It will be replaced a month later by a new version of the game show Let’s Make a Deal.

Debuting on October 5, the series will be hosted by Wayne Brady, as it features contestants dressing up in unusual costumes and making deals with the host. The original version ran from 1963-1977 and was hosted Monty Hall.

Amy Poehler to Co-Anchor Weekend Update Thursdays

Can you ever get enough of Amy Poehler?

NBC will put that question to the test this fall, as the former Saturday Night Live alum returns home to co-anchor a pair of Weekend Update Thursday night specials with Seth Meyers.

Knope Problem

On September 17, the Poehler-ized Update will lead into the second season premiere of the comedian's sitcom, Parks and Recreation at 8:30 pm. This will be followed by the return of The Office; and the debut of the new series Community at 9:30 p.m.

(Sadly, 30 Rock doesn't come back until October 15.)

Poehler will also be behind the Weekend Update desk a week later, on September 24.

A&E Cancels The Beast

A&E has officially canceled Patrick Swayze's FBI drama The Beast according to the Associated Press.

The Beast featured Swayze as Charles Barker, an undercover FBI agent who teamed up with newcomer Ellis Dove (Travis Fimmel).  The series premiered in January and suffered from poor ratings and concerns about Swayze's health.

Swayze, of course, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the start of the show's production.  Doctors, however, allowed him to continue to work on the show.

The show cancellation does not come as much surprise, though there was speculation the show was going to go on with a new leading man.

We wish Swayze the best.
