Gossip Girl Season 5 Spoilers: The New Serena, The Men of Blair Waldorf & More!

at . Comments

The fifth season of Gossip Girl premieres September 26.

After a lackluster, up-and-down fourth season that felt lacking for direction at times, that date cannot come fast enough. Executive producer Josh Safran recently previewed the new season - one he promoises will be "lighter, poppier, and a lot more fun."

Some excerpts from his interview with TV Line:

Leighton on GG Set

On Blair's royal wedding, a decadent affair in the making: “There’s the shower. There’s the dress. There’s photos. There’s seating charts. There’s cake tasting.”

“Planning a wedding, even a non-royal one, can be a pain. They are definitely feeling those pains, and the joys, that come both as a couple and independently.”

On the new, focused, driven Serena: “Serena is lost no more. She has taken the job that was offered to her at the end of last season, and we see just exactly how that has panned out for her ... Serena’s goals come very clearly into focus.”

On Vanessa's goodbye present of publishing Dan’s book: "A season-long arc will propel Dan into a new world for which he may not be ready ... his maturation process is going to be sped up, because this is not a decision that he made for himself ... it is very much like a bullet from a gun that somebody else fired.”

On what it means for Dair: “It affects things very much.”

On Dair's connection progressing: “We knew from Season 1 that we were going to have a connection that was surprising to both of them, and was based on a shared emotional life. That storyline, in whatever form, is continuing.”

On the future of Chuck and Blair: “We have not abandoned Chuck and Blair stories by any stretch of the imagination. But that doesn’t mean it’s always going to be Chair or Dair or Lair or whatever nickname people want to give that.”

Chace Crawford, Elizabeth Hurley

On Elizabeth Hurley's character: "Diana Payne will mean big things for Gossip Girl herself, as through her, the show will explore the role Gossip Girl plays in our world.”

"Business mogul Diana sees the potential in an untapped market of these young twentysomethings that she believes could be exploited better. She really takes it upon herself to avail herself of our cast and get them to come work for her.”

yes all this big stuff is happening, blablabla
but seriously, are we ever going to hear from the 'gossipgirl' again?
will we meet her/him?

I don't see Chuck with Serena unlike Dan with Serena because even though in both cases they are related only legally and not by blood I feel that Chuck and Serena have a more brotherly/sisterly relationship, maybe because they grew up together with Nate and Blair. Despite the mishap in the Pilot, eventually they managed to turn their childhood friendship into a siblings relationship, while Dan and Serena never really managed to do that, so I think a hookup would ruin one of the most interesting non romantic dynamics in GG.

I want to see chuck and serena hook up, seeing as they would be the ultimate power couple.

@Had Enough you knew it since 1.7 that chuck and blair are meant to be together till the very end. so just because you won`t believe it, you don`t have to annoy the one`s who do.

the show has become boring. i'm just watching because i'm waiting for blair and chuck to get back together. they are the ultimate couple. everyone else is just boring. even nate's good looks can't make him interesting.

i think that this new season of GG will be as heavy and fast pacing as the others.unless its just me,but absolutely looking forward to having the show comeack, especially with the cliffhanger that we was left with.i can't wait to see chace crawford aka nate archibald back to doing what he dos best:looking absolutely sexy!!!!!!!!!!even if this might be the final season at least they will look as sexy and rich as they at the beginning.GG fan all the way!! xoxo

nothing can save this series now.

Aside from the prince and the pregnancy stuff, I think some possible storylines have the potential to be interesting (a more assertive Serena, the fallout from Dan's book, Blair dealing with getting over Chuck, maybe even Chuck maturing/evolving in a real way). Also encouraged that this season will be "lighter" and "fun". I don't think the show will ever be s1 or s2 quality but it is what is. I still think GG is entertaining and will watch s5 with an open mind...which means I think I'll stay away from certain message boards Certain factions of this fandom are so relentlessly negative and self-righteous ( *cough* TWoP posters *cough*)!

I really hope this season brings back vintage Gossip Girl, as season 1 and 2 were the best ones. The first half of last season was great, but the second half was disappointing. I'm so excited about more character development and more real drama (not just romantic drama)

Noone KNOWS that Chuck and Blair will be endgame, but the writing kind of speaks for itself doesn't it? The show has been headed in that direction for a long time and I would be very surprised if they didn't end up together.

And who am I? That's one secret I'll never tell ... You know you love me. XOXO, Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl

[to Jenny] That's the thing. You need to be cool to be queen. Anne Boleyn thought only with her heart and she got her head chopped off. So her daughter Elizabeth made a vow never to marry a man. She married a country. Forget boys. Keep your eye on the prize, Jenny Humphrey. You can't make people love you, but you can make them fear you. For what it's worth, you're my Queen. I choose you.
