Sons of Anarchy Round Table: "Brick"

at . Comments

Sons of Anarchy features lies, deception and multiple death threats this week. Who is in the most trouble?

That's one of the questions Matt Richenthal, Dan Forcella and Christine Orlando tackle in the following edition of the TV Fanatic Round Table. As always, reader feedback is welcomed on pressing matters from "Brick."

What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Matt: Otto and Gemma at the prison. This was the first-ever scene between husband Kurt Sutter and wife Katey Sagal, right? Safe to say they nailed it.

Dan: Without a doubt it was Piney giving it to Clay. The dude won't give up, and you have to credit that to his friendship with John Teller. Nothing like an old man sticking up for his dude. RIP, JT.

Christine: I liked Jax calling Opie on his fling and that Opie was quick to throw it back it him. I guess that's what happens when friends share the same porn star.

Do you blame Opie for cheating?
Matt: For cheating? No. We know the rules of the biker world and, if you recall, Opie actually did NOT vow to remain loyal to Lyla during their wedding ceremony. But for cheating with a fellow porn star? Yes. That's now the unspoken agreement between man and Old Lady.

Dan: Yes. On the season premiere Round Table I said "The big question that remains is her professional life. Is she done in front for the camera?" Apparently Opie figured out that just sitting in the dressing room helps him get over what she does for a living, but the problem ended up being what he found IN the dressing room. Whether she put the kibosh on children or not, cheating is not the answer Ope.

Christine: Heck yeah. Although I'm not surprised, I had hoped for better from Opie. He did marry a porn star. When she lies to him and makes him angry, what better way to deal with it than bed another porn star?  I suppose a rational conversation with his wife would be out of the question.

Will a SAMCRO member be killed this season? If so, who?
Matt: I'm going all out and saying Clay. He only has so much time remaining as President anyway, so I can't see him sticking around as a part of the club beyond this season anyhow. Could he play a side part, like Unser? Sure, possibly. Could his role in JT's death come out and Jax put a bullet in his step-father's brain? I say yes, definitely.

Dan: Yes. It's looking more and more like it will be Piney. If this series is last seven seasons like Sutter claims, there is no way the Clay/John Teller stuff can come out now. Clay will kill Piney, and then down the road Tyra will let the truth out, leading to Jax putting Clay's head on a stake. But that's season six territory.

Christine: My money is on Bobby. Even though Clay is racking up enemies quickly, I can't imagine him being killed off until the last season and Piney seems too obvious.  Bobby is fighting Clay on the cartel business. If things come to a head, I can see Clay taking him out and being able to fall back on the fact that he was sleeping with Luann to cover his tracks.

Are you buying the Juice storyline, or do you need more background information on the club's racism?
Matt: I need more. I don't doubt such racism exists in the MC world, and within SAMCRO in particular. But we haven't seen enough over three-plus seasons to justify why Juice would do absolutely anything Roosevelt ordered in protection of his heritage, including the monumentally dangerous step of stealing a sample of cocaine. He really believes that's safer than coming clean about his father, following years of loyal service?!?

Dan: I'm definitely not buying it. The Sons' hatred for Ethan Zobelle in season two, and Darby throughout the series, makes it pretty unbelievable that they would be THAT racist toward Juice upon finding out he has a black father.  And if race is such a problem for the club, why would be all that different that he's part black instead of being Puerto Rican? There's just not nearly enough depth to this story.

Christine: I buy it. It never fails to astound me how deep racism and homophobia can run, often with people you wouldn't suspect. I'd love to think it wouldn't matter to them, but that would surprise me. Personally, I wish Juice could come clean with the club and then they could run a game on the Sheriff, but that may be to much to ask.

sorry, would NOT believe Juice just found out about his father being african american

I 100% agree with Greg! There is a color line.... No matter how many years Juice has been with the MC, the fact remains: he is bi-racial. I don't think ALL of the members would have a problem, but alot would. I also dont think that they would believe Juice just found out.

My favorite scene..... I don't know. Probably Piney and Clay. I don't believe for a second Piney is going to die although I'm seriously concerned about Juice. I honestly think Clay is going to bite it this season. It would be entirely unexpected and Kurt Sutter does love unexpected. I think Gemma is going to have a hand in making it happen as well. The story could go on without Clay although I admit I like him (and love Ron Perlman). Jax could, upon finding out about Clay and JT, decide to take over as President which would cause all sorts of conflict with Bobby, Tara etc. Clay is a big part of the show but he isn't the central character. Jax could try to get them out of the business with the cartel and I'm sure that would be at least a season's worth of bad news. As for the Juice storyline, I totally buy it. I don't think they're necessarily saying SAMCRO is racist. The implication here is that it's an unspoken thing in MCs that black people aren't welcome. If Juice got in without being honest about his heritage, that could be seen as getting into the club under false pretenses. Besides, it's not really about that anyway. It's about Juice's fear. It's about his uncertainty. He doesn't know what the club will do and Roosevelt is pushing that fear even further. Either way, I think he's a dead man and that freaking breaks my heart. I adore Theo Rossi.

I certainly hope it is not Juice but reading the article posted her on his interview it does sound like he might be saying his goodbyes. I would love to see him stay longer but you never know with Kurts mind little twisted like the story lines .

i REALLY didnt like that fact they used ima for opie to sleep with. they were in a porn studio for f**k's sake, weren't there any other sluts for him to go off with? it felt way too lazy, or as if sutter wanted to use ima just so that they could make opie say "it worked for you" when jax confronted him about it* (* and i know that banging other women is apparently ok in the sons' world and that it happened 2 years ago in the show's timeline but im STILL mad at jax too and i can't believe tara just let it go)

after 40 years running in a crew i can say this with authority, the reason the MC world has clubs that are for the most part not racially diverse is because of cultural reasons and by mutual choice-blacks are not trying to get into predominatly white clubs by choice and visa versa,i find it interesting however that hispanics and whites are frequently in the same clubs,as far as SAMCRO goes the show has gone way out of its way to show the club as nonbiased- as long as juice plays by the rules and lives by there code and will tcb and not be a cheese eating rat he would probably be ok-esp since he was allready in- as far as opie goes the rule is that sex is his business and behavior acceptable, piney would be an obvious choice for death but they could kill off a lesser member to make the story line-then get a new prospect- somehow those letters have to be destroied or nutralized in another fashion-juice could/should end up dead because he is a rat and by 1% standards needs killing-in the end ther business will be wheeling/dealing/and TCBing and business will be good

Hey is it just me or is Sons of Anarchy laying off the murder this season? It started off great, but it is laying back a bit. Excited to Danny Trejo but I think that they are under using him in the series.. Would love to see more of him in the series.. He is an awesome actor that was over looked and under utilized for too long.. Still love Sons and will till it ends.. Look forward to seeing the series develop more. I think that Clay is going to bump off the retired Sherrif. I think that his conscious and his feelings for Gemma is going to make him a liability to Clay.

I totally agree with Greg and Christine. I buy the Juice storyline. Just because the guys don't walk around punching black people doesn't mean they're not racist. Is Juice's life in danger? I don't know, but I think he has a legit reason to be nervous if the club finds out about his father.

I am starting to worry like it seems Unser is also starting to worry about Tara. He knows they all think he knows Clay is not going to just let this go.

What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Unser reading the letters/burning them/following discussion with Clay. Do you blame Opie for cheating?
Yes - he's married, and that Ima bitch is bad news. Will a SAMCRO member be killed this season? If so, who?
Piney or Bobby. Are you buying the Juice storyline, or do you need more background information on the club's racism?
Yes - there is a definite color line in the MC world. Sutter has said it himself (read his blog) I don't understand why people can't grasp that. I think some folks have just come to love these characters and can't accept the fact that, among their many flaws, racism is one of them.
