American Horror Story Season 2 Scoop: Reboot on the Way

at . Comments

American Horror Story will look VERY different next season.

On a conference call with reporters today, Ryan Murphy confirmed that neither Dylan McDermott nor Connie Britton will return to the FX drama in 2012, as the story of the Harmons and their haunted house is over. Murphy and his team will focus on entirely new characters and a new setting next year.

“The second season of the show will be a brand new home or building to haunt,” the series creator said. “It will also have a new overriding theme... and a different cast of characters.

Ben and Vivien in the Afterlife

Some actors may return, Murphy said, but they will be portraying "new characters." The idea is for American Horror Story to be an anthology of various scary tales, the producer explained: "There are all sorts of different American horror stories to tell."

Look for cast announcements to be made in February, as Murphy concluded with this interesting tease: “There’s a clue in the last three episodes where we say what the second season will be.”

Let the guessing games begin! What do you think of this unique approach to storytelling?

I'm guessing a prison's a good guess. That medium mentionned that those were haunted too, often

I think Viv's sisters place in IL right ?? Maybe it will revolve around Viv's sister or something , because they did say the stories will "overlap" . hmm?

@Spookypaws - the House is obviously built on a Hollywood set of an old Indian burial ground. Jeez, do they have to spell everything out for you ;)

I like how they ending the season like a good horror movie. they gave you closer without giving you full closer, to leave you wondering what just might happen in the future. Lets face it no story is ever fully over with. Life and the after-life goes on and on and on. . . .

That is wrong on so many levels. There are way too many unanswered questions in Season 1 with the same characters, to just completely drop them and focus on new ones. WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THE HOUSE RYAN MURPHY???? Why can't they ever leave??? And what's with Tate's baby? Seriously.....

Hey - you know which place they mention in the last three episodes? Florida. I always say Florida is a nice place, but they should bury their dead.

It seems some people just can't let go. In fact this is a fantastic way to run the series as we won't slowly get endeared to bad characters requiring the writers to write them good, eg. Sue Sylvester. It also meant that the finale didn't have to be a cliffhanger but a proper denoument and, dare I say it, happy ending for the whole series. If the new cast are anywhere near as good as this one then bring on AHS2012. I want to see a whole "cabin in the woods" scenario like "Evil Dead" - now that would be bats**t scary as a series as each week a new group discovered the cabin.

i. just. can't. no tate/violet anymore, thats like watching a show what got cancelled

If they had done this with Heroes, the series will be saved. There comes a time when you need to explore new stories in diferents places but with the same mythology. That being said, PLEASE BRING BACK VIOLET!!!

@Dexter Idolizer: If they do, it will be as different characters. I was on the call and Murphy was clear: everything about this season is history.
