While the episode centered around Jimmy and his f'd up past.....I'm surprised the reviewer did not mention Van Alden........I've read on another site that his baby dies in the season finale........and that it was said by the woman that plays Lucy.......may not happen now since he's on the run......

So Margaret has found religion again.......how convenient...........I think Nucky might kill her......

I do think Eli will testify against Nucky....

It's too bad the last episode is this coming Sunday and we have to wait till late next summer for the next season.............

Disturbing and creepy. The flashbacks dragged and could have been cut down.

Margaret is so sanctimonious, and as you say, it's all driven by guilt. What a great character, but it's becoming hard to like her.
This show just gets better and better!

Excellent show sorry next week will be the last show

Did anyone else notice that although Gillian claimed to be drunk, she was acting completely sober except for pretending to fall of that bench after taking off her stockings? Jimmy, on the other hand, did appear to be hammered. Gillian was cool and calculating the entire night. Trying to make Jimmy jealous by flirting with his teacher, and at the same time completely upstaging Angela. Remember the first episode when Jimmy comes home from the war and Gillian jumps on him and wraps her legs around him? The character development in this show is awesome!

Superb episode. Finally a peek into Jimmy's past. I was surprised to find so much character development this late in the season, but given how much those flashback showed us, I see why the show took this route. No wonder Jimmy is so TROUBLED . . . look what he's been holding inside of him all these years. Giliian is even more despicable than I ever imagined. And now she has Jimmy's son to raise; think about the horribleness to come in that little fellow's future. The scene of the Commodore's murder was so disturbing; the scene when Gillian tells Jimmy his son will soon not even remember his mother was equally as disturbing. It was like Jimmy gave the Commodore a knife to the gut and then Gillian turned about and knifed Jimmy in the gut too. She's a sick sick woman and a fascinating character. Looking forward to flashback's that explain her psychosis -- trust me there's more there than a rape at age 13 at the hands of the Commodore.

I wanted to amend my thoughts and say Harrow will not take out Gillian. She won't die next week.

The maid will tip Nucky off, and the priest will corroborate it.
I wasn't that keen on the flashback segments, they spent too much time on that.
Richard Harrow will be the angel of death next week, he may be the one to take out Horvitz, or Gillian, she called him a simpleton and he has been stewing all season fearing he was the object of derision from Jimmy.
Margaret will not die, she is going to go crazier with religious zealotry, we DO have next season, and Nucky's legal problems are not going to be solved next week.
There is going to be a lot of cliff hanging next week.

To me it told me that Jimmy didnt join because he was a patriot. He left school cause he couldnt go back and because of his mother. He made up his whole story to join. She messed up her son and as far as the whole theres nothing wrong with that, thats some deep psychological stuff that im sure the commodore filled her head with. Which makes everything seem even more like a greek tragedy. jimmy killed his own father and in the end because of his mother again. It was sad seeing him falling apart and snorting the heroin. He is doing some amazing acting. Richard seemed almost equally devastated by the murder. He loved her in his own way. Margaret on the other hand is turning into a van alden . Her guilt is turning her into a damn fanatic and even if Nuch gets outta this, i dont think he can forgive her. I loved the look on van aldens face when he saw the preacher. You know what really upset me other than all the main things but somehow left a really bad taste was, when capone luciano and

margaret's husband was so brutal to her, she should thank nucky for getting rid of him.
as for jimmy, i'd be terrified to let his mother anywhere near his son.

Gillian and Jimmy didn't just kiss, they had sex! I just feel I have to make that clear, because Teresa refrained from pointing that out in the review.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the episode like always except for a few minor things:

    • Katie caught Owen and Margaret talking about them, but she didn't really hear much, yet they acted like she heard a full confession of their affair. All she heard was them talking about if they thought of one another. I understand it could have sounded wrong, but Owen could easily make up an explanation like that he knows Margaret from Ireland and that's why she kept warning Katie about him. Problem solved.

    • Van Alden is now a wanted man. Okay, that's fine, but why does that make Nucky so happy? Of course that means all of Van Alden's evidence is not unusable, but that still doesn't let him off the hook. He still has the Deputy testifying against him, the lawyer pressing hard for a life sentence and Eli possibly doing a bargain with the fed

A truly fantastic episode, the flashbacks were great. The gillian/Jimmy thing I guess has always been hinted at. I felt horribly for Jimmy, so broken.
I don't know what is going on with Margaret, she chased Nucky and now she's all about ruining everything she got.

remember when gillian told angela that she used to kiss jimmy's penis when he was a baby. i thought nutjob. remember when margaret burned nucky's ledger and began to tell him he was strong and he is smart. i thought she was going to become his partner she understood how their "lives were going to be". when margaret started chasing after nucky he said his life was already complicated enough. i know now that he wishes he would have left her the hell alone, and stayed with the airhead lucy. as far as gillian and jimmy go i can't believe no one around them doesn't think something weird is going on or did someone one of those gangsters mention that he had a strange relationship with his mother. i can't wait until next week. this show has got me hooked.

in this episode, 'Under God's Power She Flourishes', margaret's character is so oppositional to nucky's, it seems to send out a blaring signal the complex relationship storyline is about to conclude. especially, when we hear nucky give margaret a stern warning about testifying - which was, in actuality, a very thinly veiled threat. margaret's character has been so clandestine, and, yet we now find she is lacking any sort of survival strategy and consistently acts out in sanctimonious and self-destructive ways. and, if nucky gets wind from the maid about margaret with the Irishman, well, let's just say, it's gonna be curtains for both!
yet, more interestingly, this episode provided a ton of jimmy/gillian perspective, utilizing the dramatic motif of a classical Oedipal interpretive backstory. angela's sketchily written characterization left gaping questions as to the logical motivation for her desire to be involved in the jimmy relationship. oddly, the writers somewhat salvaged thi

I love how all of the characters are flawed in there own way...There is alot of Margaret hate going on but in truth they are all sanctimonius in there own way. Each one thinks they know the right way, and the more they do it there way the deeper the shit gets...It mirrors life in that way...Thats why its a good show.

First off i want to start by saying I look forward to Sunday's, this show is one of my favorites. Tonights show was really good, I feel bad for Jimmy and what happened to his wife. I also feel bad for the life he had with that slut of a mother. I really dont want the season to end.

Ask for religion, accepting Dexter's Ideology may be the best solution for all of us: We need to get in touch with our inner Dark Passenger and embrace it!!!

  18. James Franklin

When Jimmy had sex with his own mother I was creeped the f**k out and scarred for life! I knew from the first season there was something strange going on between those two, especially when Jimmy's Mom would kiss him on the lips! I am glad Jimmy stabbed his father in "SELF-DEFENSE!" The Commadore was getting on my cell last nerve like Margaret's Character! If I were Jimmy, I wouldn't let my mother anywhere near my son with her crazy, disfunctional and whorish mentality!

  19. Tiffany

One of the best episodes... Love how the baptism murder came full circle. All the characters are interesting. Margaret is downright nutty. Don't understand why she slept with the irish guy. Nucky was right when he said, "I gave you everything." Now she blames him for killing her husband. She needs to move out or fall in line!! Jimmy's mother needs to get slapped. Gillian is sickning.

  20. Alex Roggio

The religious Margaret can kiss my ass. She's become an annoying pain. If my daughter got polio, I wouldn't try to make it all about me and say its God's way of punishing me. That's such a selfish way to look at the world. "Everything that happens to everyone around me is all because of me"... She's selfish and egotistical. That's why she gave up her crusade against alcohol just to be with Nucky, and that's also why she turned a blind eye when her husband was murdered. And its also why stole from Nucky AND cheated on him!

I wouldn't mind if she was gone. Her religious character is now becoming way too annoying. I get enough of that preaching on Sundays at Church, I don't need to come home to see that on TV too.

The wrong woman was killed off in BOARDWALK EMPIRE....They should have killed Margaret and not Angela...I never liked Margaret...She is unattractive in every way....She is becoming more repugnant in recent episodes....She has become self-centered and religious....She lacks warmth and a rationale mind...She is the least interesting character....Everytime she is on the screen I am turned off....I have never cared about her....I hope Nucky finds a new girlfriend and Margaret is killed off...I certainly will not miss the Margaret Schroeder character..
