Grey's Anatomy: Clearing Way For (Possible) Cast Departures?

by at . Comments

The contract talks between Grey’s Anatomy and Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers and others has become a hot topic of late, and TV Line has an interesting teaser along those lines.

Shonda Rhimes hinted last month that the season ends in a way that could accommodate any number of possible cast departures, as the original stars are all in the eighth and final season of their ABC deals.

Well, according to TV Line, a late April episode will follow the residents - Alex, Meredith, Jackson, April and Cristina - as they interview for fellowship positions at other hospitals around the United States.

Those hospitals are apparently wooing the Seattle Grace quintet in anticipation of them passing their medical boards, and they're entertaining all of their options in their current hometown and beyond.

None of the actors has said much regarding their prospects of returning for Season 9, but this would make it awfully convenient for one or more of the aforementioned quintet to leave SG for good.

As for Patrick Dempsey, he has indicated he may very well come back if his schedule is freed up so that he may pursue other interests. So he (and others) could also appear on a limited number of episodes.

Honestly speaking, as long as the remaining 3 of the original 5 interns.. Meredith, Alex and Cristina are there, I am all game for Grey's! Honestly the show took a lot of time to bring back the charm after Izzie's dismissal and George's death ... ABC better do all it can o bring these 3 back! Only other characters i care about other than these 3 are Derek and Lexie - them being directly related to Meredith GREY ! Please send Avery away! useless character only to drive wedge between Mark and Lexie! and while we are talkin about hiring/firing characters, hire KH for Izzie as a guest star! pretty please!

Personally I think all season they have been setting it up for cast departures. I feel they've been setting Lexie up to become the main character and for her and Mark to become the power couple on the show.

dont blame avery blame shonda for such a large cast and with some of the cast gone Alex, Jackson, April can get some shine

Avery has to leave - he's a horrible actor and provides nothing new to the team. In fact the whole show is in need of some action like last season. It's pretty boring to watch nowadays

I just wanna see Avery leave! I see potntial in April more than in his abbs! Christina leaving could only happens if she gets her own show! :D ;)
and if either Mer or der is leaving, both should go, don't seperate them!

Ellen Pompeo has to stay. Meredith is the Grey in Grey´s. And I can´t imagine this show without Cristina.

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

Did you say it? 'I love you. I don't ever want to live without you. You changed my life.' Did you say it? Make a plan. Set a goal. Work toward it, but every now and then, look around; Drink it in 'cause this is it. It might all be gone tomorrow."

Meredith (closing voiceover)

Lexie: [narrating] Grief may be a thing we all have in common, but it looks different on everyone.
Mark: It isn't just death we have to grieve. It's life. It's loss. It's change.
Alex: And when we wonder why it has to suck so much sometimes, has to hurt so bad. The thing we gotta try to remember is that it can turn on a dime.
Izzie: That's how you stay alive. When it hurts so much you can't breathe, that's how you survive.
Derek: By remembering that one day, somehow, impossibly, you won't feel this way. It won't hurt this much.
Bailey: Grief comes in its own time for everyone, in its own way.
Owen: So the best we can do, the best anyone can do, is try for honesty.
Meredith: The really crappy thing, the very worst part of grief is that you can't control it.
Arizona: The best we can do is try to let ourselves feel it when it comes.
Callie: And let it go when we can.
Meredith: The very worst part is that the minute you think you're past it, it starts all over again.
Cristina: And always, every time, it takes your breath away.
Meredith: There are five stages of grief. They look different on all of us, but there are always five.
Alex: Denial.
Derek: Anger.
Bailey: Bargaining.
Lexie: Depression.
Richard: Acceptance.
