I agree with all the twilight references in these comments. I mean really, is pandering to the middle school girls gonna increase their ratings very much?!?! Terrible episode, no real reason for the originals, stupid stupid ending to Delena and Stefan the ripper, Bonnie mad at Elena? Maybe for 15 seconds, rebekah - just another lexie ( why didn't they keep her), klaus is the anti-villain, it goes on and on. Terrible writing, story, plot, and show.
Man that episode felt good ! I found myself not REALLY wanting the vamps to die, find another alternative like, turning them back as humans and stay that way. But weirdly it would have been cruel...they don't wanna be humans again, they relish into the vamp state. They are too far in monsterland to go back.
Damon, always the bad guy, yes, but that sentimental part of him better stayed on coz I don't want him to lose it again, NO !
Stef, WTF man, what happened to "I don't give a f*** anymore" ? No more human blood? Boring, I can't stand the StElena couple, too sweet and all that crap and her telling waht she did to Damon last, girl u got some nerves ! And getting all worked up because he slept with Rebekkah? C'mon !
Poor Bonnie... I gotta admit, Caroline handled the talk with grace. Not harsh, but firm. And she was sooo right, everytime Bonnie suffers, Grams, Jer, her mom, and it is always because of Stef/Elena.

I thought this episode was great because Stefan is finally going back to his old self and hopefully Elena realizes that soon and gets back with him. As for Damon, he finally understands that Elena will never choose him, so he should move on already. The best line of the show was when Damon told Stefan "I tried to win her from you fair and square but she didn't want me" Thank goodness he finally gets it.

TVD got almost 5 stars! thumbs up for the show... Its good to know that the show received good feedback from the viewers. Its worth it. I hope they continue to create good stories for Elena, Stefan and Damon.

I'm not sure what is more disturbing...this episode, or people's response to the episode. Don't get me wrong. I love the originals and find them a lot more interesting than the Elena triangle. However, watching Stefan and Damon hurt Bonnie and her mom to save Elena was a big low point. Especially given how much Bonnie has helped them in the past (isn't she supposed to be their "friend"?) I think the only way I'll enjoy next episode is if it's titled "Bonnie's revenge". Or better yet....maybe Elena should be turned, since clearly it's not a big deal.
And please writers, stop hiring minorities because you clearly don't know how to write decent scripts for any of them. If the only thing that you can do is kill them off or commit them to a role of servitude, then maybe you should be replaced by writers who actually live in this century. Then again, the fact that this reviewer and most of the people commenting here have no problem with this, is also screwed up.

As one of the few people who actually like the Elena xter compared to Caroline, I was disappointed that she chose to save Elijah and ruin the whole plan. This is her fault and Damon was right, she messed the plan.
It would have been nice for all the originals to stay but I think they would run out of story lines.

San - yes Caroline wanted Klaus to follow her....that was the plan. Didn't you see the scene before that? It was all a set up.
I have to say that I didn't think this episdoe was so great. It was good. And I am glad he's alive but I am really really sad that Elijah left! I hope he comes back before the end of the season.
Now that Elena's friends are dwindling...will she turn to Matt? Maybe she needs a human for a bit...get away from the vampires....they surely have brought a lot of chaos to her haven't they.
Sort of wished she would have left with Elijah...that would have been a huge twist. If she just decides that she needs a break from it all and goes on the road with him.

Wow...I hadn't enjoyed a TVD episode this much for ages.Besides the part with the OW disappearing and the stupid/pointless cliffhanger with the White Tree ,this episode was pretty much awesome!
->We got bad boy Damon back and he's rocking that part! Plus we got Salvatore bonding time and i don't care how many times Damon has sacrificed his happiness for Stefan...it never gets old for me. I still think it's sweet.
->Klaroline!!! The moment Klaus turned to Kol and told him ''Keep talking and i'll tear your liver out!'' i was like...''Awwww...Look who's being protective''. I hope this is not the end for Klaroline!
-> Elijah is alive! He was amazing in this episode. I'm so sad he's leaving.
I was really hoping that all the originals would stick around. I love those guys (Rebekah not so much...)

poor poor Elena she has no friends left she has no boyfriends left she has no family left.....what is this poor girl to do......all she has is her compassion to keep her company...........well it's time to get off her "compassion" roller coaster and leave town ...go to europe and chill ....give herself a month to smooth things over and be damned everyone....maybe meet up with Katherine and learn from her.......and what's this bullshit with Carolyn all of a sudden ........what makes her the mother Teresa of vampires ....she forbidded Elena to see Bonnie!!!!!!!!!

AWESOME episode for so many reasons: briefly - Klaroline, Stefan/Damon friendship and undertanding. elena trapped it a hole. Elijah!!! Klaus/Kol. Alaric/Damon. Rebekah!!!!!!! Bonnie/Caroline/Elena... Esther and Finn died? Damon saving Elena (AGAIN!) and stefan by turning abbey into a vampire. bonnie barring elena (jeremy needs to come back!!!) meredith being freaky as usual. i love alaric.. i hope meredith dies soon. All originals together a freaking great - so happy they didn't die for too long. please give me more klaroline scenes - they are just so amazing together! Where the hell is tyler btw...?

Elena did screwed it up like every time before. And who had to pay for it, Damon and Bonnie. It`s so ridculous how everyone is everytime trying to save her from her own faults. She can`t have anything. She must also make strong descisions with colleteral damages (Elijah) if she want to turn on with her life. And now, wow we have Stefan back and what now, everything happy behind the picket fences again. Elena forgetting her gwowing feelings for his brother and being happy till she was older than he, because, remember she don`t want to be a vampire.

I`m proud of Damon growing stronger than i have ever dream about, but sacrifice is a cheap thing in this show. Stefan did it for Damon, Damon did it for Stefan and Elena, John and Isobal did it for Elena and Bonnie wanted to sacrifice herself for Elena but was stopped by Damon. Hmmm, no better storyline here?? And now If she want her love with Stefan back, than she had to turn into a vampire to have a lasting future. I´m afraid lookin forward to new episode. Who will sacrifice next?

4) Love triangle Elena/Damon/Stefan really is annoying me now. So the writers built up all the Elena/Damon stuff for NOTHING?! And I definitely want bad Stefan back, not boring Stefan!
Because of all these points I'm not even excited to watch the next episode. I agree to what "VioVio" said: there is no big picture of where the story is going. And if this season really is meant to be about the Originals, there is way to much "Originals already leaving town" going on...

I really didn't like Rebekah at all in the beginning. She was nothing but a spoiled bitch to me. BUT after the last two episodes? Especially after this one? I LOVE HER :-) The scene in which she said all the things to Elena that many fans would like to have told her?! GREAT!
Kudos to Elijah as well. I don't want him to leave :-(
But all in all, I was disappointed by this episode. For several reasons:
1) Klaus going after Caroline after it was SO clear she WANTED to be followed? (Walking into a bar, straight to Klaus, being surprised he's there and then leaving again... please...)
2) ANOTHER TREE??? Seriously, dear writers, don't you have any new ideas?
3) Mother Original and her favourite son just disappearing into nothing? Really? Don't believe that one second.

Wait I've got it. Stefan and Elena fall in love at school. Stefan breaks up with Elena and leaves town to give her a better life. Damon falls in love with Elena while Stefan is gone and at the very least they become best friends. Elena goes and saves Stefan from himself. Elena dumps Damon and even gives up on their friendship in order to be with Stefan again. Agree with this.
Hope Bonnie dies and Rebeckah,too. Klaus must live and Damnon die.

Again, I enjoy each episode of TVD individually but Season 3 doesn’t have a clear sense of direction. In Season 2, we knew the grand plan, what we are supposed to expect: to meet Klaus and the sacrifice. I remember the last 6 episodes of Season 2 clearly because it was the “final arc” and aired non-stop. They were extremely well-written, well executed, and left me in shock and in awe every week! The lead up to the season finale was great and at a great pace. But this season, while I love it because it is all about the ORIGINALS, there is no big picture of where the story is going. I was excited last week because they set-up Esther as the potential antagonist for the rest of the season, but now what? How long is she gone for? What about the other Originals? Although each episode moves the storyline forward a little bit, we still don't know what to expect in the long run. This in turn makes the cliffhangers less exciting.
After last week, lost all my respect for Elena. Seriously didnt feel sorry for her at all I really wished Rebekah actually tortured her. And I loved how Rebekah outsmart Elena!!
While it’s great that Kevin Williamson is working on a new pilot I really hope he spends more time on TVD. Which seems like it’s not going to happen anymore!!! Anyways, still holding out hope for the last part of Season 3 to be EPIC!!!
I loved the Klaroline action as usual because I didn’t expect them to interact in this episode. Though it does seem strange that Klaus is suddenly so interested in Caroline, but I really do enjoy his humanity and find him adorable. Plus, Caroline got to interact with Kol!!! I’m still secretly rooting for them though I hope Kol never gets a love interest! It will soften his character!
I really liked Rebekah in this episode. Her emotions and her inner pains..she is a character with depth and Claire Holt is such an amazing character and portrays Rebekah perfectly! The reason why I love the Originals so much is also because they are played by charming and amazing actors: Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gilles, and Nathaniel Buzolic, LOL
Also I read somewhere that for Finn's audition the actors had to do scenes where Finn confronted Pearl and Bethany. Maybe this info is made-up but if it’s true then maybe they will tie-up the ghost story with Esther and the Original story. I think that would make a grand season 3 finale and make the story all connect together in a more epic fashion. Now that I’ve written it all out my theory doesn’t really make any sense....LOL!
Also I’m still not convinced Meredith is the serial killer, if Julie Plec wants her to become a series regular it makes no sense that she would be the one. I’m still holding to my theory that Vicki is the one doing the killing. I know it’s unlikely but it seems like the ghosts were introduced for a reason at the beginning of the season, or I’m just HOPING that they were, because if they weren’t then their story is just really pointless and disappointing. I mean Esther could let the ghosts come back from the other world while she was still dead, now she's alive wouldn’t she be able to use them for some sort of purposes?
They didn’t even have any sibling talk or discuss the situation that they are in and what they should do next. This whole thing was built up to be epic but resulted in nothing! I mean, we were only introduced to the entire Original family 2 weeks ago and they just went their own ways this fast? It is way too rushed and too premature!!!
Now onto the cliffhangers, although I liked the idea of another white oak tree in Mystic Falls, it just seemed like something that was too obvious and way too predictable to be introduced. I mean, the main characters are trying to find ways to kill the Originals but they keep failing, however since the Originals are the antagonists of this season the writers have to constantly invent new ways to kill them. And obviously the white oak tree being the only weapon...anyways.
Elena : I just want to kill her. It's that simple.

It would have been nice for all the originals to stay but I think they would run out of story lines.
