TV Ratings Report: Smash Slides, House Hits Season Low

by at . Comments

In just three weeks, Smash has gone from a possible NBC savior to... the brink of cancellation? While we can't imagine the network giving up on such a publicized series so quickly, the dropoff in ratings has been drastic, from over 11 million for the series premiere to 6.5 million last night...

Happy to see a small increase for Hart of Dixie. I really need to see Wade and Zoe get together. Even though some of the writing could be better on the show, the chemistry between these two actors is smoking and the main reason I keep watching.

@jsd It definitely deserves to be canceled, the CW needs to reinvent a new image, being the Gossip Girl network has hurt them, Dawn's dumb decisions to limit her demographics has greatly damaged the network, it's a complete joke now and the shows are performing worse and worse.

Because I don't want it cancelled. I just don't get posting about wanting it cancelled. So I am posting because I don't understand the other posters and I don't want the show cancelled. If I didn't care about the show I wouldn't post.

@jsd Apparently you cared enough to post.

Why does anyone care if GG gets cancelled? I watch the show so I don't want it cancelled, but when I don't like a show or quit watching one I don't wish it was cancelled. There are tons of shows that I can't stand or understand how they are still around but I don't go around posting comment to cancel the show. Who cares?

@whateva Gossip Girl started out with pretty good ratings, but it's been declining lower and lower, now it's barely holding on to 1 million viewers and 0.5. If there is a next season, it's probably going to drop below 1 million if it doesn't drop any lower for the rest of the season. Even last season, it was steadily declining, the lowest rating was a 1.2 and now this season, it hit 1.1 a couple of times before dropping to 1 million.

@Anonymous
As someone pointed out it the demo that determines whether a show gets cancelled and last season though very lowly rated season 4 of GG was actually beating everyone on the CW for the demos. But 1 million is bad that like what a rerun gets. After pretty much destroying Blair yes GG needs to hung forever. I have a feeling they will at least get a midseason premiere to wrap it up like OTH (though OTH wrote their last two seasons as if it maybe their last, something maybe every show should do).

Matt, you're forgetting that it's the demo that's important, not the overall numbers. Smash is sitting on a 2.3 demo, which is very solid considering it's NBC. Whereas a show like Castle only earned a 2.1 in the demo. The only place a 2.1 would be considered "good", or even "healthy", would be a failed network like NBC.

@whateva Who cares? The show deserves to get canceled, I hope it drops below 1 million mark. I wonder what pathetic excuse the CW will try to justify this crapfest getting another season. The show was already doing bad getting 3 1.1 million and a 0.6 and now 0.5 in demos. It has been decreasing from year to year (especially with Season 3 onwards), it had nothing to do with shipping. @Spindae I know, cancel the show, it's not worth keeping around anymore. @Dexter Idolizer They should cancel Gossip Girl, there's no valid reason to keep this terrible show any longer. They should try to salvage the network, not continuing to fail like Dawn Ostroff has been doing.

Despite the fact GG actually does make up for low ratings by having high itunes and dvd sales (in fact they beat TVD both of those categories) I don't think this show will see a season 6 as Josh Safran felt he was sure he was going to get. I think the chair fans as shallow as it may be to quit over a pairing are trying to send a writers for screwing their couple the way the show has. As much as Dair fans to dare to dair, the show did it and the price was only a million viewers in the ratings. Take note TVD you better cut that back and forth or you get some pissy shippers. I stop watching TVD live because the shitty way of developing your original cast.
