Eric Hochberger: Like the man himself, this answer is simple: Ron Swanson.
Matt Richenthal: The answer is clearly Swanson, but I'll give it to Jack Donaghy just to be different. Referring to Liz Lemon's shoes as "bi-curious" on season one of 30 Rock was enough to earn him a permanent spot in the pantheon of hilarious TV character.
Carissa Pavlica: Eric Stonestreet as Cameron Tucker on Modern Family. And he's even funny on Twitter as a real life person. Bonus!
Chandel Charles: James Roday and Dule Hill as Shawn and Gus on Psych. You don't understand how funny they are as individuals until you see them together!
Steve Marsi: Tom Haverford and his schwag on Parks and Recreation.
Jim Garner: Alex Green on Whitney. If you didn't see his drunk marriage proposal last week, you missed out. It was one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time.
Nick McHatton: Ellie Torres on Cougar Town. She hopes a shark will eat your face. To her, people are just bags of skin that slow down her day. Seriously, visit our Cougar Town quotes section for more reasons why.
Miranda Wicker: Jess Day. New Girl. Zooey Deschanel is beautiful and hilarious. Love her!
Lindsey Kempton: My mind also went to New Girl, but to Schmidt (Max Greenfield). Without him, New Girl wouldn't be half as funny!
Lisa Palmer: I second Schmidt, the best character on New Girl.
Leigh Raines: I third Schmidt!

love the list, but it has to include barney on how i met your mother, brad and jane on happy endings, liz lemon on 30 rock, leslie knope on parks and rec, phil and claire on modern fam, and definately sheldon cooper on big bang

I watch quite a few sitcoms, and Max Greenfield has done some outstanding work this year as Schmidt on NEW GIRL. So, he got my vote. It would have been more difficult if COMMUNITY's Dean Pelton had been listed because he's equally shameless. Yes, I also watch THE BIG BANG THEORY. But, honestly, Sheldon Cooper has been lauded for eight years now. It's time he did a Candice Bergen and took himself out of the running. (For those who don't remember, Candice Bergen removed herself from Emmy consideration after winning 5 times.)

Of the options presented, I definitely choose Schmidt. However, I echo the sentiments of many other posters here: Why was Sheldon Cooper of The Big Bang Theory not considered? I adore him!
I only recently began watching HIMYM, and Barney is also very funny.
