So what should be in store for this show if Damon or Stefan will be out of the picture.
Well, I would not state that for sure. See, the problem is this triangle is overshadowing everything else that should be more focused on. Even in the books the triangle was not the focus of the story, it formed and developed along with it, with all the supernatural stuff going on. Here, unfortunately, everything has been zeroed on Elena, all the decisions made are to protect Elena, everything is done in the interest of Elena, not Mystic Falls and its people - everyone wants Elena, all villains are connected to Elena, everyone is concerned about Elena. All the other characters are left as if to just go along with the flow, apart from Caroline almost everyone other character is a "back up dancer" for the Elena and Co show - Matt, an interesting and strong character in the books, is a boring ass sad dude here. Bonnie is a go-to-witch. Tyler is left to deal with the sire bond of screen. Just think

I love the show and I think the writers are going to do something great
ine the nest three weeks...
BECAUSE of how uninteresting and unlikeable all the corners of the triangle are and because of how VERY badly it is writing, triangle comes off as irritating.
Good quality compelling and well written love triangles can add a lot of enjoyment to the work of fiction(and even then should not be the sole focus of work of fiction).
In case of Elena, since there's NOTHING to like or be interested in and since the character had NO BUILD UP and continues to be identical or even worse than Bella Swan, her "Struggle" comes off as annoying and boring instead of compelling and relatable.
So what should be in store for this show if Damon or Stefan will be out of the picture.
Hmmm...how about plot, character growth and character development? Actually returning to telling compelling and interesting storylines of those characters living in this supernatural town and NOT relying on cheap love plotline gimmicks to carry on the show. ?

As much as it might surprise you, A VERY BIG part of the fanbase does NOT watch the shows for love triangles. Soap operas are for that. TVD did NOT attract viewers and critics with some compelling love story, because IT WAS ALWAYS the weakest point. It got where it is because of good quality writing and endless potential the show had in S1.
Now once all of that is gone and only triangle remains, reasonable people end up asking: Why is this show still on air? What is there to be told apart from atrocious love triangle that comes off as bland and annoying and where you can NOT relate to none of participants?
But otherwise i couldn`t understand why it seems that you kind of talking this show down. I mean this is a triangle and whatever Julie said it will not find an end in this season. And i go with Paul who said during the Paleyfest that no one will go on watchin if it would find an end. The triangle is butter and bread of this show.

Triangle does not work. The writing is just not up to the part to make it interesting. Elena is not relatable and has zero-personality and both SE and DE come off as entirely unrealistic and unlikeable pairings that make both the characters involved and the side characters suffer from character degradation.
What is more the show has NO BALANCE between coherent good quality plot and love triangle, as love triangle ATE UP every interesting plotline now.

choose Damon, but he will kind of sacrifice himself to make his brother happy, because he thought Elena and Stefan will be the couple for endgame. So, Elena will be left stucked with Stefan, realzin that she loves Damon more. And so indirectly the triangle will move on..

@Matt Richenthal..I`m wondering about your bad ratings in the last time..And i must admit that i found other recaps meanwhile better than yours. The reviews and ratings from Cindy McLennan (telivision without pity) and Carina McKenzie are more fun and not the dissapointed like yours. Well I`m on your side with the lost threads of the show. And that some good ideas ended to soon. But otherwise i couldn`t understand why it seems that you kind of talking this show down. i also dont want to see the season four if she chooses stefan (not that i´ve got anything against him) but then we start again, and we could just watch season one again. and for all stefan/elena, and elena/damon it will be the same again in season four. she is with stefan and in love with Damon and no i dont want to see that throug another season again again.

VM and BTVS advocated and promoted strong, interesting, INDEPENDENT female protagonists who have life outside their romantic pairings and who CAN survive without those romantic pairings as WHO they are with is NOT what defines them as people.
TVD pairings have been incredibly sexist and Damon/Steffie are incarnations of misogyny and TVD's portrayal of a protagonist is the total opposite of everything that feminism stands for.
I am sorry but comparing Elena Cardboard and Damon/Steffie TO Veronica mars or Buffy Summers is outrageous.
Why? Because both of them were complex WELL-DEVELOPED, interesting multilayered flawed protagonists viewers could relate to and the relationships were developed well and were well written.
I LOVED DE in S1, but writing has been atrocious since S2 and there's nothing interesting about that pairing. And comparing it to legendary shows like VM or BTVS is...well insulting the legacy those shows left.

You Delena shippers crack me up. I pray you have functional, healthy romantic relationships when you get out of puberty because if you believe the relationships that Elena has with either of the brothers is healthy or normal (negating the fact that they are vampires), then you need a reality check.
Stop defending Damon. He did some pretty atrocious shit.
Stop defending Stefan. He did too.
If you have to choose the lessor of two evils, go with Stefan. But if you have two brain cells to rub together, then you should hope that the Salvatores get different girlfriends and leave whiny-ass, can't make up her mind Elena in the dust. Seriously. Who goes from brother to brother; especially just because the other left town?

For me this explains Damon and Elena. It`s not easy and not always beautiful..but it`s all i want for my life. Love Stefan and i feel sorry for him. But if i have to choose. I will choose the stony way with Damon.

I reckon I'll only continue watching if she chooses Damon. It will be tiresome if she just chose Stefan. Ugh!
@Herewego: sorry I don't understand how Stefan basically stole Katherine from Damon. She didn't belong to any of them to begin with. They both started to like her around the same time. Damon might have loved her a bit more but it doesn't mean katherine was his. And she seemed to choose Stefan [or both of them], that's entirely her choice, not Stefan's fault. Blaming Damon's hurt on Stefan because he got the girl is just wrong. In fact, there's nobody to blame. Everyone is just following their heart and at the end of the day, if you lose, you should probably forget about it or if you can't, don't blame ur misery on other people because they love each other.
I also don't know how you know Stefan killed more people than Damon. They showed Stefan's dark past and his long list of victims. but Damon too has a past of living as a monster who has no remorse. Stephan basically stole Katherine from Damon while he was off fighting in the war, he forced Damon to turn, Katherine loved Stephan in spite of his rejection and therefore continued to hurt Damon, Stephan played as the good guy even though he has killed more people than Damon, ... I think Damon deserves to win one of the dopplegangers!!! I see Damon as the one that has been slighted in this series, not Stephan.

I don't think the Rose conversation with Jeremy was really about both brothers...only Damon. As much as we've gotten mild teases about Damon and Elana(and a small kiss) most of the evidence for love has been placed in the Stephan box...all you have to do is read the forums to see that some people need to have it spelled out for them...yes she does have deep feelings for Damon as well as Stephan...the Rose convo spelled it out for those that continue to try and deny it.
Really don't get all the drama about Damon being a bad boy...his character has been described as self-destructive...he strikes out and does stupid things because he hurts (and when he hurts he really hurts)... He has changed a lot from the first season (hence the Elana makes him better comment. Just like Stephan changed because of Klaus's influence. As far as I was concerned the playing field was even then...Stephan was proven to be just as much a bad boy as Damon. I actually think when you take out the present day hist

I'm a huge fan of Delena. But I don't ship the couple because of how hot Ian is. He's the icing on the Damon cake. I love the character. What gets me is how people continue to misunderstand him, always bringing up his bad points and raving about "good" Stefan. Stefan has his dark side too, lets not forget how he killed Andy, Damon's girlfriend, whom by the way did not return to life. Damon snapped and broke Jeremy's neck, even Jeremy has forgiven him, why shouldn't Elena? Oh but let's continue to judge him relentlessly. Even after he spent the entire 3rd season protection and supporting Elena. He deserves love. He lived 145 years loving one woman, 50 of those, prior to Sage, celibate, whereas Stefan turned into a ripper and hated Katherine for what she did to him, never making real amends to Damon whom he forced to turn. I don't think anything that Damon has felt for Elena has been manipulative or wrong. He tried to fight against those feelings for almost two seasons. And his recent a

The most beautiful scene was the passion between Damon & Elena. Hell, it was more passionate than Elena's scene with Stephan. There's no way Elena should be still confused. I'm personally tired of some of the fans recalling what Damon has done in the past but all is fine and dandy with Ripper Stephan being with Elena. Such hypocrisy from the fans at times. Damon is good deep down inside but like he said to Elena, "When people see good they expect good. And I don't wanna live up to anyone's expectations." Damon is just Real about his feelings, which is better than the phony display of who you truly are, hence Stephan. It's obvious that Elena is in love with Damon and I think you're right Matt. The writers are saving the decision for the season finale. Elena's decision will determine whether or not I continue to watch TVD. Hope she makes the right one!

As to add to the points I wrote about triangle:
